Regarding the Eric Harland thing on the Aaron Parks, check out what your old buddy Kenneth Salters does on this track called “Take the Humble” off of Cameron Mizell’s ‘Negative Spaces’ CD. Similar but I love the way he varies it... www.cameronmizell.com/negative-spaces

I really enjoy your videos. This is going to sound like a BS question but it's not. Have you or any drummer you have heard of ever designed a rhythm around Morse code? do you think it could be done and still sound musical? Thanks if you respond.
@mickberry164
@mickberry164 4 жыл бұрын
YYZ is exactly that. It's Morse code for the Toronto airport, which is in airline parlance "YYZ". The morse code rhythm is what the song starts out with.

Yeah sorry bruh, Nylon tips are no less musical than wooden tips, it's all about the sound. The sooner you can come to terms with this, the sooner you will benefit from this kind of thinking.
@ChrisSheridan295
@ChrisSheridan295 5 жыл бұрын
They both sound different, neither are more or less musical. People have a preference and mine is wood. I don't think that's holding me back like you're suggesting

Can you do a gear video with the gear you take to gigs ever? It would be interesting to know why you choose the gear you do, such as drums, snares, drumheads, cymbals, sticks, etc.
@8020drummer
@8020drummer 5 жыл бұрын
I can do a video but I'll spoil the surprise. In New York, the answer is "as little as possible", including playing on crappy kits and somebody else's cymbals, just to avoid schlepping stuff. I can make a crap house kit sound pretty decent with a wallet, by hat, and my touch ;);)
@kurtjohnson1042

@@8020drummer Interesting, I know a cheap drumset can sound good pretty easily, but I've always thought bad cymbals were bad cymbals.
