Amazing video for me to watch as i have my own very small walnut farm. Walnuts were planted there already when i bought the house and land around it. 15 adult trees (well, very old, 30 or more years old) and now 8 young trees 2-4 years old which i planted myself. A great passion about everything involving agriculture makes me want to buy neighbours land and plant more walnut trees. I pick them up by hand, dry it in the sun or on my fireplace and then crush it by hand with a crushing tool. Hard work but makes our cold winter hours pass more quickly.

Do you have any specific goals or plans for expanding your walnut farm in the future?
@mtrance1986
@mtrance1986 7 ай бұрын
@@tony98discovery there are enough walnut buyers in my country (Slovenia) to be able to expand from current 23 trees to let’s say 40. Future plans are simply to try to buy the land, extend my fence to cover also this land and prepare the terrain to plant walnuts in correct distance next to each other. Current old trees were planted too close to each other and thus grew very high without important branches in the middle of the trees. I produce everything bio eco friendly. It is impossible of course to live of this ( if it is a good year i can earn up to 1000 eur of extra money per year) but at least i can earn some money on the side to save up for bad times or to save to invest into new land. But physically it is hard work to manage without any machines like in your video. You know, some of us hustle to be able to bring healthy food on the table and save some money, some live out of social support and buy sprayed vegetables and other food and are too lazy to work.

Just went walnut picking in Cornelius Oregon. Duyck's Peachy Pig Farm I like to eat them right away. While they still have some of the green husk on. Or just falling off. The seed is white and has a membrane to peel off. The membrane is bitter, but the seed is more sweet than dried walnuts.

@dpuravet
@dpuravet 2 ай бұрын
@@tony98discovery at this stage I enjoy the raw. I believe that there are recipes using "green" walnuts, but most call for dried walnuts. It is a meticulous process to get the skin off of the seed. I usually eat them when I'm having a conversation with someone. Eating them together. It brings back memories from my childhood. I think maybe we were just impatient to wait for them to dry and learned to eat them earlier. The first time we asked to pick green walnuts. The farm didn't understand why. But since then other eastern Europeans have asked for the same thing.

Few man made lakes on these 4500 acres of walnut orchard can definitely reduce the use of river water which can be used for the population of California . The walnut trees and the Almond trees will grow better with rain water harvesting in man made lakes and at the same time reduce the watering tremendously .Thus the water in the river can be of great use for the citizens . Everyone will have water in plenty . If 4500 small lakes are made in 4500 acres . then we may not not have to water the trees . The soil will be moist and fertile year round . If we cover the ground with corn leaves or straw , or banana trunk and leaves etc , they will absorb the rain water and keep the soil moist for several days . When nature gives water all over the land , collect some freely .
