I had no clue using those minimal instructions how to attach the hose/cylinder and without your video, I would never have figured that out, wow. Did you ever figure out what that small piece was, it looks like it holds attachments but no idea, and I didn’t realize that attachments didn’t attach, lol, to the machine itself. It does hold the attachments. If you remove the canister you can slide the piece onto two parallel tracks on the side of the machine. It's on the right side (looking at it from the front) and kinda down low.

Thank you for posting this demo! The Animal 3 is my first Dyson. I was able to put the vacuum together using the instruction manual, but I wasn’t able to attach the suction head. It wouldn’t easily seat and took forever to get it locked-on properly. It felt like it was going to break when I was pushing on it. The real challenge that you helped me solve was reclining the handle. This is the first vac I’ve ever had that doesn’t have a release button someplace. I felt like I was manhandling the machine until I watch you do it 😁👏

I just hate how LOUD it is. Among a few other things. I have a Dyson Animal that is about 12 years old that finally died, but I'm not sure I'm super impressed by the newest model. I'm having a hard time reattaching the long attachment back onto the vacuum, too. I do like the strong carpet suction, though, and the 3 settings.

Very helpful video, my wife managed to put it all together, having an old ball vacuum, however we wanted to watch the video to check we'd got it right. We still have a attachment piece we can't figure out where it goes or what it does ! However neither can Tony apparently. I watched the video then explained it all to my wife, I even managed to do a pretty good imitation of Tony's accent while doing it, and I'm Irish ! 😊

I had trouble at first getting the handle to lean back so that I can angle the vacuum head to vacuum. Thanks for the video - I not having any trouble now. I was having to put my foot on the head to hold it down when I was setting the handle at the angle to vacuum. I also found that the maching is heavy - but when I reset the button for the length of the carpet (on the head) it was much easier to push.

You are a lifesaver! Thank you so much! The slide switch on the front of the brush has an obvious function. Some machine models have a feature where the head automatically adjusts to carpet pile length and can go from carpet to bare floor automatically. This model does not have this function. According to Consumer's Report, the machines that adjust automatically do not work as well as those that you manually adjust. The three settings are high pile carpet, medium pile carpet, and the flat straight line for bare floors, such as tile and linoleum. I don't know why the medium setting has "bubbles" on top of its symbol. That extra part that is about 2 or three inches high? Its function is to provide a way of holding the two attachments right on the machine. This holder slides into two groves near the bottom left side of the canister. Using this, you can carry both attachments right on the machine. You should use one of these attachments instead of the top of the hose. I don't mean to sound like a "know it all". I tried hard and long to assemble the machine, but I could not until I watched your video!

Hi, we just picked up ours today and it works so good I can’t push it on carpet. We saw the three levels on the beater and my husband couldn’t even push it on the medium and the high carpet setting, Is there some other trick that we’re missing? I got such a super deal at Costco that I hate to return it. I can push it on bare floors but not carpet. Thanks.

Tony- All the Dyson's have great suction. The problem I am finding with the Dyson Animal Ball 3 has tremendous suction that I am having trouble keep the wand hose from retracting when I am trying to use it like you did in the video and with any of the attachment. What can I do?

It's crazy but kind of cool to have that as a significant problem. I totally understand - it does suck backward so hard it's difficult to extend the hose. I'm like 6-2 and 260 pounds, so I just man-handle it - but I'll bet it could be tough on most folks. Wish I had some advice. I got nothing - maybe hit the gym, good grief!

I'm struggling with how INFLEXIBLE the hose that pulls out of the other hose on the handle. I gotta pull it way out, step back to get the angle i need, without taking out a ceiling fan, just to angle it back down to get the end of the hose where i need it. I like so much about this machine, but I'm 5'4 and I'm still trying to figure out how to get efficient positioning with the 100 foot hose combination just to clean baseboards and dust bunnies. However, height of cobwebs, ceiling fans, etc is no prob in this case. 😂

that clip gizmo hold your attachments. you have to remove the canister, slide the attachment holder on slider on left side of body then reattach canister the crevice and goes in hole on top and brush clips on side (had to google all this). they hieroglyphics on manual are not real clear

Hey Marilyn. Did you lean it backward and engage the beater? When you do that it transitions the suction from the handle to the floor beater assembly.

I find this thing horribly designed. Nothing is intuitive, the assembly instructions have a ton of gaps, and it’s difficult to maneuver. I thought the whole point of the ball was to make it easier to maneuver!

Are you referring to the wheels in the back? I noticed they lift when you are using it on the floor, and the difference from previous vacs I've had, vs this one, is it's so much easier to keep it flush to the floor while lowering the handle, making it way easier to get under furniture edges and such... I'm not sure why they don't go down but I think it's helpful in this case. As soon as you pop in back upright, they are down. That helps support, when using hose option. Now, I have confusion of my own with use of the dozen extra attachments, and clearing the hose with a kitty toy clogging it. Hopefully I've gathered enough info, to navigate these obstacles.

The stiff part of the hose is too long! You have to vacuum your furniture holding it 4 feet away. I don’t like this aspect, but love the rest of it. Bought mine yesterday.
