1:00 - 1:15 I love the shots of the trees and then the cut to Valerie grinning. Maybe I'm looking to deep but i feel that sequence communicates a slightly nostalgic, naive infantile and sweet reminiscence of home. Like, Valerie, surrounded by the snow, felt like home again, some place that kinda resembled the one from his young years
@GuyIncognito_6 ай бұрын
It's likely also because he was trained as special Russian military, and almost certainly would been trained and primed exactly for this environment and he was realizing that if patient enough, he would gain the tactical advantage and have a form of homefield advantage (so-to-speak); which he sort of proved as it only took three seconds for him to incapacitate two armed men and make a run for it; and even after having part of his head blown off; he was able to escape, likely due to his knowledge and training for such areas as opposed to American criminals who you can safely guess aren't trained to withstand such areas in shitty circumstances. With it being implied that Valery climbed a tree to safety; he knew enough to cause his blood trail to end in a random location and then continue on to the tree and go up without leaving any noticeable proof of where he went, just that he vanished. I'd be smiling too if I realized that while I was being lead to my execution, it was being done in the environment I feel most comfortable in; especially as Valery would've known/assumed they're unskilled civilians (unless you count Paulies past in the army)

Hearing Spetznaz veterans talk about the purely random beatings and interrogations during just the first week 'selection' process this was probably not the most hopeless situation Valery has been in. He was almost through the tape-probably went through something similar during training and first thing takes a look around; what we called 'situational awareness' in the Army that was preached to us constantly. He's in full terminator/survival mode regardless of how out of shape he's become. Adrenaline and the brutal training has kicked in 100 percent and if not for Paulie's lucky grazing headshot Valery was going to draw them deeper into the woods and Chrissy with Paulie would be MIA-permanently. I've read Chase toyed with the idea of giving random interior vehicle shots of 'someone' stalking Chrissy and Paulie but temperamentally threw it out with the non-stop question of 'What happened to the Russian?' from fans.
@EricA-xd9fn2 жыл бұрын
But, you must admit that in a real-life situation Valery would have subdued both Paulie and Chrissie with two or three more bashes from the shovel. The only thing that saved them was "plot armor".

@@EricA-xd9fn True. I always laughed at the incredulous look Valery gives when these two wannabes put a perfectly good weapon (shovel) in his hands like 'Are you kidding!?'

@@EricA-xd9fn They still got their handguns and staying even two seconds longer that close would have been beneficial to Chris (who was also a good marksman from awkward positions). Valery did well by using his time window to break line of sight and get away from their most effective range. Sure, Paulie got a lucky shot, but they could have also discharged and entire mag on Valery's gut had he tried a second strike on then
@anonanon8794 Жыл бұрын
He would have kept the shovel if his plan was purely to draw them deeper into the woods to kill them. Makes no sense to deprive himself of a weapon/tool if that was the case. He was primarily just trying to get away from them. Stop trying to make it deeper than it actually was lol. Regardless with no weapon and two of them armed staying together, Valery still more than likely still would have died. There's a reason the buddy system is used. Btw situational awareness isnt exclusive to the army, you dont need to label it like its some super high level term lmao

In reality, being the ultimate badass he was, and considering they have guns and intend to kill him, he would have finished off Chris and Paulie immediately after they were both stunned. But of course, they can't kill off two of the main characters of the show. Still, I'm not buying that he runs off in the deep snow like that when he has that shovel in his hands and Chris and Paulie were momentarily down. He could have killed them - or at least severely disabled them - in a matter of seconds.

I think he 100% survived, the reason the trail of blood stops is that he climbed a tree. The two idiots never thought to look up. The reason it never comes up again is that even if he makes it back to Slava, Slava doesn't know the details of what happened. He just knows, like Tony, his idiot friend turned a simple task into an insanely stupid life or death situation. So he sends Slava away, and he and Tony never bring it up for mutually beneficial reasons. Why rock the boat?

2:22 Hey Paulie, that thing in your hand is called a gun! When you pull the trigger these deadly things called bullets come flying out into whatever you're pointing that gun at, injuring or even killing your target! No point of holding a gun at someone if you're not going to use it when needed

2:10 This Russian is so tough that he was accepting his destiny until Paulie slipped up and told him it wasn’t supposed to be his day… *Pinkch* on Chris’s forehead and booked for it! Wise and Tough! Why do ‘Mercian’s keep fckin with them. That cuba missile crisis wasn’t a movie Chris 🥴😂 Gosh I love analyzing sopranos.

Only just realised that what I assume is Vallery’s POV at 1:01 and the shot of him at 1:13 Vallery is looking up at the trees, probably plotting his escape. Thing about The Sopranos is, the answers are always there in plain sight.

Paulie hitting a headshot one handed at 50 yards after running in the snow and your heartbeat and hand would be racing, ya right.

@@ec6511 lol you civilians really think everyone who joins the military is like a master pistol marksman. Even for a professional competition shooter that would have been extremely difficult after running and adrenaline to make that shot, let alone for a 60 year old.
