Nice tutorial Tony! Your gun setup for the fan is fully closed then opened 1 1/2 turns. I’m using an Iwata w400LV and will like to know if keeping the fan pattern tighter like you did for your student will help me. On the w400 guns I see painters opening the fan all the way and closing it one quarter of a turn. This gun has a massive fan if wide open. I will be spraying base / clears with this gun. I am a beginner painter and need to slow things down and take my time. I always wonder how you move much slower than other painters and don’t seem to get the crazy overspray cloud and your finishes look beautiful! Thank you for the advice!

I always say dont break your wrist spray straight at the panel. This also keeps the dry spray from walking down the panel and creating dry spray. Also changes the distance. Your SPOT ON TONY......
@Mikefngarage2 жыл бұрын
GREAT TEACHING TONY!!!! using 2.5 turns out and slower is better to learn how to spray. gun angle is KEY.....

@shaunnormancroft2 жыл бұрын
@@TonysRefinishingTV i find it hard to teach people the importance of blocking filler and primer down, never just use fingers and a hand where they are not true to the panel sometimes on curves swage you need to but even then I would try using a soft block. I've had to do rework because of that and you can't see it till it got a shine on it even guide coating needs to be blocked full stop lol.

Great to see a young lad wanting to learn the trade and taking on board everything your telling him . I remember back in 1976 my boss gave me a VW beetle wing too paint for my first job, he went for dinner and told me to get on with it !!!!! It came out perfect thank f##k lol that was a learnig curve for me lol.

Very good video. Your assistant was covered was covered head to toe. however, his eyes are exposed and unprotected. A face shield or goggles with tear offs would solve that problem. You are a very good teacher.

thanks , and yes your right but we both usually wear airfeds with full face covering but we cant run two at once so he wore his half mask as my airfed has my camera mount on it but we both are usually fully protected

have you ever thought of a narrow vertical stand that would sit beside a panel to be painted and have it marked , say with the image of the gun, and spaced apart to represent 50% overlap and a chart for 70% overlap? A new painter would immediately move his hand up to the new position with each horizontal pass and acquire muscle memorization to obtain the desired result. your thoughts.?
@TonysRefinishingTV2 жыл бұрын
we did try that somehwere i worked once before but surprisingly it confused lads alot more than it helped tbh as daft as it was they were to focused on the part off to the side than the actual job lol

@@TonysRefinishingTV I have never painted and 66 years old .I know it would allow me to focus on speed of the gun, there is an old refrigerator in the garage and I have wanted to paint it for years. I'll hopefully get to it. You do a good job and I watch Paint Society as well. Thumbs up to you

Hey Tony that was a very interesting and helpful video, I could see a lot of things there that I was doing as well I think I've got into some bad habits with my painting even though I think my results are quite good and I don't get many runs these days IMO I need to improve my painting style. Your new guy is a very lucky chap to have you as a mentor/tutor he will learn the right way to paint and this will help him get there quicker, thanks for doing these sort of vids mate and thanks to your lad for letting us see him being taught on camera 👌🙏👍

Thanks Tony, I'm really happy with my results but think my painting style could be better which is something I can work on. I used the Kapci 634 for the first time today it went on ok but I tried to get more build over a repair on the door that isn't that good hoping it would cover it but I got a run which is the first time ever using primer😭😂

Too true unfortunately and I can never understand why as it’ll only make the industry and shops better

@TonysRefinishingTV in industrial and aerospace spraying, it's the same thing. Some will watch you make a mistake and keep quiet, others will show you the wrong way on purpose. I've narrowed it down to ego and insecurities. I'm the type of painter where It doesn't bother me if someone is just as good or better. With all that being said that's nice of you to pass it on!

With the cross flow booth your not worried about all the over spray going over the bonnet ?? Start at the back of the booth and move forward
@TonysRefinishingTV2 жыл бұрын
works best this way so yes the overspray will land on the bonnet but the bonnets wet so itll soak into the surface , the opposite way the bonnet will dry and get dry overspray landing on making it alot more dirty
