You're a great teacher, a great pianist and a great singer, Tony.

i studied with Ted Howe, & found that style of playing with the majority of notes in the right hand to be pretty muddy as a sound, and moved on to someone who plays in a much cleaner style, with the majority of the notes in the left hand. but now watching you , I am much conflicted about which styles to pursue. What are your thoughts on these 2 different styles of playing jazz piano. thx. Gloria Brinkworth -- gg@msgogo.com

Can we use a digital piano and use the C key to demo this ( transpose the tone to Eb so that your voice can sing along) Thank you! It is easier to follow in the key of C. Thanks again!

23:00 of pure gold. Super-tasty playing (and singing!), and clear, advanced-level explanations. Really inspiring, and you make it seem accessible. Since you solicited requests, how about a George Shearing style arrangement of "Strangers in the Night"?

Nice...like all the variations and playing in different keys. Do you just comp when you sing along? I wonder what key Chet Baker sang it in...F?

I'm lazy in that I rarely work out what I'm going to play. So I end up playing chords that have the melody as the top note. I try not to but it happens too often. The melody is what I hear in my head when I'm singing and its hard to avoid playing a chord that has the melody note on top. There are son tricks tho...

Very nice. Thank you. The only thing I might ask is to explain the difference between what works theoretically and what sounds good. That is: How songs sound better in some keys than in others.
