I like this list, could we expand it by: E: In certain cituations, when the melodie admits it, or when a chord is expanded by a triad with the melodie chord on top and made fit, A backdoorDominant + it's IIm7 in front..could be constructed: C7-Fmaj7 Backdoor: Bbm7-Eb7 Fmaj7, or better said we could built on the octatonic scale four Domiants: On the Root(normal Dominant V7) on the bIII the #IV(Tritonesub.) on the ^VI also we could adapt a Truckschluss or Illusiry ending like IIIDom7 I like E7+5-Fmaj7 Maybe LadyBird turnaround is a sub for a commen Turnaround, and V7 could be substituted by Diminshed Chords....

AWESOME video, thank you....Just sorta thinking out loud here, I was taking some of your reharm suggestions from this video and making rootless voicings from them, and it sorta dawned on me that you can't really have a rootless tritone subsition, because then its the same as the chord its substituting, so you sorta need the root in order to actually make a tritone subsitition (of course unless the bass player plays the root of the tritone sub)....So if I'm playing solo piano and playing all rootless voicings, if I want to do a tritone sub, I have to play the root. Am I thinking about this wrong?

You get it. I agree with what you said.

On your chart how did you come up with th Gb maj7 for the 1 Chord?
@TonyWinston4 жыл бұрын
C7 is not the 1 Chord. (Cmaj7 is the 1 Chord) I used tritone substitution -. Any V7 can be substituted by another V7 chord a tritone away . The C7 is a V7 chord. V7 can refer to ANY dominant 7th chord. Good question.
@patriciodasilva79022 жыл бұрын
Thing is, when you are composing a song, you want to choose the essential chords. Reharm is for interpretative renditions of a song, but a song must have its essential form.

Excellent!!!!! Are these rules derived from a certain book? I am trying to really learn how to become an expert at reharmonizing & these rules are an excellent. More Please!
@TonyWinston5 жыл бұрын
They were given to me by Ted Howe, a great piano player and former teacher at berklee college of music. There are some more techniques I'm hoping to present soon. The group Accent has taken rehsrm to new level.
@kwamealievergreen42575 жыл бұрын
I noticed there's a GSus in your second reharm. Was that following any other rule or were you just using a preferable choice?
@TonyWinston5 жыл бұрын
A sus chord is similar to having a II chord precede a V chord. A sus could also be though of as just another quality of a V chord

Raef Black No, I didn't make them. Taught to me by a Berklee college professor. I wouldn't call them rules, more like techniques. And there are more...

Lol dont make it worse.... any chord with C following 1 check Bb7 with 9 .... substitute dominant for minor maybe has to be functioning as V ... anyway A7 with 9 instead of Em then I guess F#7 with c as the b5 ... oh well kind of fun
