Hello King, all I know to keep me warm though Canadian winter is burn wood. Wood stove in the shop- put your damper in the chimney above the upper heat barrel and remove it between the two barrels. This way the damper in the chimney will hold back the heat in the heater barrel 👍🏽. Plus you need to some how remove all the ash and stuff sitting on the bottom of the upper heat barrel. A chimney cap should make a difference too, especially a wind directional one. A lot of the acadians use them here and it's the only chimney cap they swear by. Thanks for the vid King

We heated with a double barrel system similar to this Joe for 15 years. Only our top barrel had a plate welded in the middle that made to the flow of air come up into the top barrel, then flow to the front of the barrel, around the end of the plate and then out into the old natural gas furnace chimney in our house. Plus we had the whole thing shrouded in with exterior tin with a old furnace fan for circulation into the old ductwork to the whole house. Was always nice and cozy throughout the house.❤😊

Wow! Almost as cold as Yakutia Siberia. They stop sending little kids to school when it gets to -30°C, but the older ones keep going until it hits -50°C. No mention of wind chill. Befor you trash your dbbl barrel stove, try putting a grate about 4 - 6" above the bottom so the Red hot coals can get air under them and be sucked up thru them. That big old gate valve you have might be too restrictive for optimum results, but if you draw the air up thru the coals I guarantee it will burn too hot and you'll have to close the inlet air valve. That's how my stove works and it's a monster with the lower/ ash door open. ben/ michigan

I had some of the same problems when I tried the double barrel thing. My issue was that the 13 inch steel pipe I used for a chimney was too big. It never got hot enough to pull a draft through the barrels. Switched to an 8 inch pipe and removed the top barrel and I got some heat. I think that barrels are too deep too. The air never seems to get to the wood way in the back. You'll figure it out Joey! You always do.

I think the grate idea has merit. Also too the top barrel could be cooling the smoke gasses too much. The flue pipe needs to be hot to create draft. We always had really thin stovepipe inside. I wonder if that helps.

Hey Mr Barns, it’s Chris from the fatherland 😊. Thinking about your wood burner problems, does the fire pick up at all when the shed door is open? If it does then you may find that you need to provide the stove with more air to burn. I was a domestic heating engineer and this was a common problem especially if the house had been renovated with new tight fitting windows and doors etc basically because the old loosely fitting fixtures allowed enough air to pass through. We would then have to create a permanent air vent to outside to provide enough air for the appliance to burn. Something also to consider are other fans or forms of forced ventilation that will have an impact on the air circulation inside the building. Hope this helps enjoying the channel as always. Chris from South West England.
@kingofobsolete4789Күн бұрын
we have the dog doors which allow the dogs in and out so the buildings are not air tight. any heat loss from the dog doors is acceptable because with out the dogs we would have no windows in the Kingdom. when in a low air pressure, water on the stove will no boil so fires will not burn. in a high pressure system, water boils quickly on the stove and the fire in the wood stove burns out of control. thansk

If your mechanical equipment is still working outside, it could be worse. In an Alberta winter freeze, the temperatures routinely drop to -40 to -50C and at that point, the hydraulics completely freeze on any outdoor equipment. We kept our Kabota in a heated shop overnight when it was -46C so it would start in the morning. It started fine and we drove it outside to let it warm up more and put the bucket on the ground....and that's where it stayed for a week until the freeze passed.

Well, I'm confused. Why does the stove in the basement of the staff's house draw so well and your shop stove doesn't? It looks to me like you need a bigger draft or at the very least a forced air draft for days when it doesn't draw well. Just my 2 cents with the info I can see in a video. I did have a wood stove made from 24.5 truck rims that I put a forced air blower on and set it up with a timer to run about 20 minutes then shut off for 40 minutes. It worked well for me but there may be variables that are different between my location and yours.

Could you cut a hole in the chimney weld. Pipe in the hole have a fan or compressor to inject air to the chimney and create draw in the fire box I fished with a guy who had a similar problem in his ice shack with his stove. This was his fix blow air out the chimney having some come from the stove due to the vacuum. It worked for him. Sound confusing with my poor description but I m sure you guys will get the idea or sparring a new idea. Good luck. J

I use a wood stove on a regular basis as well. I know that pine creates a lot of creosote buildup in the chimney. I got a feeling that the upper burn chamber in your wood stove is probably getting clogged up. You've swept the chimney twice in the last month and barely anything comes out of the chimney. I don't know what method you are using to get your wood stove to light up. I use a small propane torch to get my wood stove to burn. Can you open the upper burn chamber to check if it's getting clogged up? I don't know if you're burning dry wood or if some of your firewood is slightly wet or green
