Too Hard to Win? WATCH THIS! - Crazy Castle Playthrough - RollerCoaster Tycoon 2

Back again with another OpenRCT2 video! This time I demonstrate how to beat Crazy Castle, a "beginner" scenario that is notoriously hard to beat. I also build some awesome original rollercoaster designs!

I found a really neat little trick with rides and guests, if you put no entry signs on the exit lines, and a balloon stall at the ride exit, only guests who rode that ride can buy a balloon. I color code the balloons with the color of the rides, so riders can show off they went on a certain ride, and it’s cool to see all the different colors of balloons around the park, and you can see who rode what, which is really cool. I have separate balloon stalls on walking paths but they are not any of the colors of the balloons you can only purchase after riding a ride. So if you want a green balloon, you gotta ride the green coaster. 😃🎈

No, you're not going crazy. I still play the original disc for RTC2. It was called "Dodgems - 1" in the classic game. It was never Bumper Cars - 1"

@@azungu1190 Haha, I have two! I have the original disc from when I grew up. Then several years ago I made a point to buy another disc since I was worried about it being too scratched. Wanted to make sure I had it to play for the rest of my life. Had no idea Steam had it. So now I'm covered on all fronts!

I never had too much trouble with this scenario, for me it was always Factory Capers. Crazy Castle is easy because you start with the mine train ride. Its a total cash cow. Also left the random paths and the whole castle in bc guests getting lost is great for getting your number of guests in park up. You can beat it no prob with splash mine, the mine train coaster (premade one ofc, decoration and theming has a solid impact on excitement rating and that's what keeps guests paying for the ride even if its "old". 4 year old mine train still ends up a cash cow XD), a decent wooden coaster like you made, the castle mouse ride, and the little thrill rides you put in with plenty of stalls. I always try and make a nice little food court in the middle of that square and set up paths in all 4 cardinal directions to connect back to the outside of the square (if that makes any sense) with thrill rides filled in. A tip for some of those higher nausea rides is to put a clinic like, right near the exit. Guests will go there and wont puke in your park, so you can save on handymen.

All good strategies. I’ll have to try them in upcoming videos! I was always worried guests getting stuck would kill my park rating, but it never occurred to me that could be a cheeky trick to keep guests in the park 😆 def gonna try that one LOL

Guests getting lost hurts your park rating which can also kill guest generation.

If you press and hold the "close/test/open" button and drag, you can skip the test for rides you know are safe.

I never knew there was an option to make the hats, tshirts, balloons etc all a randomly selected color! This must be in Open RCT. How could I forget the ORIGINAL game where it was all just one default color? Lol

coat d'arms. if there is a vowel after 'de' then you repalce the e with an apostrophe.

There is a hotkey to close all windows. Click on the Floppy Disk > Options > Controls and Interface (the gears) > Shortcut Keys. A lot of great hotkeys, such 'Highlight Path Issues' which would show litter, etc. on your paths

I'm not particularly good at this game, but I beat this scenario on the first try. I don't know why people consider it so difficult? But the main thing I enjoy here is seeing what your park looks like at the end! I love seeing how your rollercoasters and park layouts differ from what I made...in the few scenarios I have actually beaten lol

It’s because the pathing layout was bad, guests were poor, and you just had too many rides to select from the beginning

You can deafen ride music by selecting the ride, then once inside that rides menu, left-click on its ride icon tab on the top-left. Or within the ride menu, turn the music off completely for that ride. I always mute the Merry-Go-Round!!

Haven't watched it to the end, but can't you buy extra land in this scenario? When you were struggling with the second wooden coaster with loops i think you could have bought a few more squares of land.

I have a question. You mentioned that you could get away with a high price until it gets old. I was playing one park a lot after completing the mission and realized that after several years they start to avoid the older rides until you get prices stupidly low (to a minimum profit margin). How does that work? Should I try the highest price possible at start and then after "it gets old" get rid of it? And if, for example, my ferris wheel gets old, does that mean that I'll never be able to profit from any other ferris wheel?

I’ve got a feel for it over the years, but I think Marcel Vos has a video that explains it. But as a starting point, try adding excitement, intensity, and nausea ratings together to get a ballpark price, then adjust up or down from there depending on how guests react to it. Excitement has the largest impact of price though. There are other factors, but I don’t know them. Reading the thoughts of guests is helpful too.

And yes, the price you can charge goes down as the ride ages, and having multiple of the same ride type also reduces it. So, if I have 2 wooden rollercoasters, I can’t charge as much for either vs if I only had 1.

There's a trick to resetting ride prices after a few years. Close the ride, then delete and rebuild just one section of track. The ride will return to being brand new once you reopen it, and you can charge full price again. With rides that can't be modified, just sell them and build another one. Your guests will think its brand new and pay full price again. Thanks for the vid. RCT2 is one of my favorite childhood games. I was playing for a few hours tonight and decided to watch a vid on the game.. then found you. I'm a RCT veteran, but you still taught me some things I didn't know.

Boat hire can seem useless, because the guests so often get lost which causes both the riders to want to get off and the queue to get really long. The easy way to stop this is to make it a tracked ride with a set path. Then, they only run the path and get off. That makes it a worthwhile ride to build. It won't have great stats (unless you buy a ton of theming), but it gives the guests who want less intense rides something to ride and spend money on and still takes in decent money. The woodie type you were talking about are Out and Backs, not There and Backs. The red arrow is for the number of guests going down, not your park rating. The main reason you'll lose guests in RCT1 is because without the cash machine/ATM, the guests run out of money pretty quickly, especially if you charge a lot for rides.

All good points. I can add track guides to the boat hire, but in my head I’m like “irl I like the freedom to steer my boat where I want,” so I’m reluctant to add the track. Kind of a silly reason honestly 😅 I should just add the darn track LOL

@@azungu1190 Sometimes, what works best in the game isn't what we'd want in real life. The biggest problem is that the peeps have a very bad directional algorithm. They're really bad in open spaces with lots of options (which is why you never want double and triple wide paths!), and often end up walking around in circles. Well, water is an open space with lots of options, so it takes them forever to find the boat dock. That ends up making no one happy, not even the guests on the ride, who soon get bored and want to get off, but can't. For extra fun, try the jet skis on a boat track, and watch them zoom right through the track and back off the ride. ka-ching!

Thanks! What system are you playing on? There should be some obscure but easy fix that will make it run. Or, you could go do OpenRCT2’s website, download the mod, and run the game through that, that should make it run across platforms (not sure how stable the Mac or Linux versions are though, I’ve mostly just used Windows).

That's just not true. A bunch of woodies did it back in the early days. Son of Beast did it back in 2000. Nowadays Rocky Mountain Construction makes both wooden and hybrid coasters with inversions.
