Today we'll be finding out how much the ute canopy setup weighs on the back of the Dmax. The canopy fitout is geared towards camping and touring with an 85L upright fridge, 4wd drawers, a diy kitchen build and more. Comment below if the results were what you were expecting!

The better half was wrong. That is a first! :) We bought a camper some time ago and as we were checking it out, my Mrs. said - "our fridge won't fit in that slide out". BS, I said, it'll fit in easy. The fridge didn't fit by 5mm too high. Good to have you guys back, and yes, we all need "that time".

Welcome back. Thanks for the reminder. I gotta do that myself and get my 4WD weighed. I think I'm slowly approaching GVM when I'm packed for full camping/touring mode. The only saving grace is that I have upgraded my entire brake system for a heavy duty version. But still, I'd like my rig to weight a lot less, if it can.

Welcome back guys, loving your videos. Stumbled upon your videos recently whilst researching canopy builds and 12v setups. I've definitely borrowed and incorporated a few of your ideas in my canopy setup. Enjoy the Monkey Mia trip. I was there 11 years ago and loved it. The flies do get a little annoying but it's totally worth it. Watch for the emus at Monkey Mia too, they'll come right up to you and snatch anything not nailed down. The dolphin feeding sessions are also a must.

Glad you're back mate 👍👍👍 2022, 4x4 Dmax crewcab ute has a gvm of 2165kg cerb weight and a load rating of 998kg. IIRC there's a roof line load limit of 50kg ...... not 100% sure but in 2005 a spare tyre and a full gerry can was the insurance load limit for a roof rack.

I just went to the Canning Vale truck weighbridge and my Extra cab Colorado is 250kg heavier than I thought 😔😔 My 1ton ute is now a 750kg ute with a 260kg canopy on it costing us a total of 510kg. We are off over east at the end of the month so we are now madly weighing everything and dropping things off the fit-out. Thanks for shining a light on this topic (that I overlooked). A long range fuel tank (full) and the ARB heavy steel bullbar.

My dmax with canopy and fitout rtt and 270 awning water tank bullbar rocksliders with luggage for 2 comes in at around 3.1T. I think the message here is no touring dual cab can remain under factory gvm and needs a gvm upgrade. Good video, if ur ever in canningvale they have a DOT approved weighbridge that weighs individual axles. Interesting to know ur weights And finally pedders do a load measuring on board scales .. what a complete rip off... 3 and a half grand.

Welcome back mate! This was a good video, and was really good information for me as I'm considering getting an ally canopy too, but my suspension isn't rated for 500kg. Not sure if it's worth forking out the $12k+ for the canopy, plus another $1k for new springs with 500kg constant. Anyway, looking forward to the Shark Bay videos!!

Bear in mind that any GVM 'upgrade' may create issues with any future warranty claims.

Yes i have heard a lot of GVM upgrades would mean exceeding the OEM axle weights which insurance companies will class as being over weight
@Swaggerlot

@@goonshark8668 Yes, potentially insurance voided as well. Any modification to a vehicle that exceeds their specifications, which has or may have caused problems, will give manufacturer's a 'get out of jail' in regard to warranty and Australian consumer law provisions.

What sort of fuel economy do you get with a fully loaded rig. Do the dmax and ranger compare?
@explorebound
@explorebound Жыл бұрын
Fully loaded the Dmax gets about 14L / 100km on the open road, bit higher than I would like but hoping a tune might settle this in future. The Ranger used to get about 12L / 100km so a bit better (and it had more power haha).

Did you have full tank of fuel? 🤔 also awesome lake, good for r/c car and flying r/c planes ahaha
@explorebound
@explorebound Жыл бұрын
Great question - only about 20L of fuel so the total weight would be ≈50kg higher with it full. It sure is, coincidentally there was someone down there flying their RC plane on the afternoon we filmed this. 🙂

Your bullbar is unnecessary and just adds weight you could better spend in other places
@explorebound

If you're a city driver I'd definitely agree, however if you use these vehicles for any kind of touring I'd consider a bullbar essential - I've hit kangaroos on the highway that would destroy the front end of a stock vehicle with this bar and not taken a scratch.
