I work at sea and we went up to the Arctic the year before last, I was so excited to possibly see wild Polar bears but there were three within an hour of actually getting in the ice, thereafter there were so many of the bloody things that we stopped looking, it became the norm. I am not an expert but to have different bears around the ship continuously for weeks hints to me that there are bloody millions of the things.

in the early 2000s you'd constantly see propaganda around the polar bears, showing pictures of a polar bear grasping onto a piece of floating ice, basically insinuating that they were dying off because ice was melting and they couldn't survive. the actual truth, of course, was that polar bears are territorial, and their numbers were getting so high that some were pushed beyond the boundaries of their typical habitation. its hilarious

spicy bbq #tasty. That’s actually not far from the truth, a recent botanical survey of wild plants discovered that leaves and seeds are larger now when compared to samples taken 50 years ago. Over the last 10,000 years, the average temperature was 12 degrees warmer. It was 12 degrees warmer for thousands of years. The polar bears did not die. We know this about the temperature and atmosphere from testing Ice Cores from Greenland. Therefore we also know the glaciers did not melt. Places like England were not underwater. There was no heat feedback loop turning us into Venus. Global Warming alarmists predict the temperature might go up between .5 and 2 degrees. If 12 degrees hotter doesn't end life, 2 degrees will not either.

@td603 td603 As it has many times, over the millennia. The earth and our solar system are unspeakably powerful. We might have a slight impact but I'm convinced that the earth will do it's unbelievably complicated thing with or without us- like a volcano that spewed out enough material to create the Isthmus of Panama, which split the great ocean, which warmed the earth along with other forces, melting snowball earth. Like the 390,000 square mile Lake Chad in the Sudan that existed when it was connected to Brazil. The biological material leftover in the desert sand, from that gargantuan lake, is so abundant that it blows on the wind each year and fertilizes the Amazon. This earth and it's systems and the climate are far bigger than any of us understand.

*Three stages of truth* : First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. *Thomas Francklin* “Falsehood will fly, as it were, on the wings of the wind, and carry its tales to every corner of the earth; whilst truth lags behind; her steps, though sure, are slow and solemn.” *J Edgar Hoover* - Dir FBI “The individual is handicapped by coming face-to-face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists.” *William Colby* - Dir CIA (on Project Mockingbird) “The CIA owns everyone of any significance in the major media.” *Douglas Valentine* - Author: The CIA as Organized Crime "Pressures the CIA exerts on the media equals political warfare against the American public." *William Casey* - Dir CIA “We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.” *James Angleton* - Dir CIA - Counter-Intelligence “Deception is a state of mind and the mind of the State.” *Harry S Truman* - US President “I never would have agreed to the formulation of the Central Intelligence Agency back in 1947, if I had known it would become the American Gestapo.” *Joseph Goebbels* - Nazi Propaganda Minister “Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.” “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” “This is the secret of propaganda: Those who are to be persuaded by it should be completely immersed in the ideas of the propaganda, without ever noticing that they are being immersed in it.” “...the rank and file are usually much more primitive than we imagine. Propaganda must therefore always be essentially simple and repetitious.” “Propaganda must facilitate the displacement of aggression by specifying the targets for hatred.” *Wikipedia* - Big Lie A big lie (German: große Lüge) is a propaganda technique. The expression was coined by Adolf Hitler, when he dictated his 1925 book Mein Kampf, about the use of a lie so "colossal" that no one would believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously." Hitler’s use of the expression: All this was inspired by the principle-which is quite true within itself-that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. United States Office of Strategic Services report on Hitler's psychological profile: His primary rules were: - never allow the public to cool off - never admit a fault or wrong - never concede that there may be some good in your enemy - never leave room for alternatives - never accept blame - concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong People will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it. *Wikipedia* - Gell-Mann amnesia effect The Gell-Mann amnesia effect is a theoretical psychological phenomenon, the term itself being coined by author, film producer and academic Michael Crichton after discussions with Nobel-Prize winning physicist Murray Gell-Mann. Originally described in Crichton's "Why Speculate?" speech, the Gell-Mann amnesia effect labels a commonly observed problem in modern media, where one will believe everything they read from a journalist even after they come across an article about something they know well that is completely incorrect. The conclusions found and perspectives portrayed by the author are entirely erroneous, often times flipping the cause and the effect. Crichton notes these as "wet streets cause rain" stories. In short, most eloquently put by Thomas L. McDonald, the Gell-Mann amnesia effect defines the idea that "I believe everything the media tells me except for anything for which I have direct personal knowledge, which they always get wrong." Recorded cases of this phenomenon are rare. One example is that of C. S. Lewis (who did not know of this phenomenon but nevertheless has a case of it). After reading biographical interpretations of his own works and realizing how incorrect they could be, he began to read other biographical interpretations with more caution, aware not to accept everything stated at face value. Michael Crichton concluded in the same essay that there is absolutely no value in the media, as society continues to seek information from the same source that was entirely wrong on the topic in which one retains expertise. He then says that "the only explanation for our behavior is amnesia". Christopher Hitchens once referenced this phenomenon in a town hall speech with the example of the Washington Post, saying that, although things are often biased and incorrect, he and a large portion of the audience continue to get their news in that way.

Climate science moves forward by hypothesis and testing (and intrinsic, robust skepticism), not consensus (shared opinion). Science’s reason for existence is to expand our knowledge via rigorous debate and critique, not by shared opinions (consensus). As author Michael Crichton put it, "If it's science, it's not consensus. And if it's consensus, it's not science." Scientific consensus is worse than any religion in that its dogma is much more inflexible. The church had the inquisition; liberal scientific consensus uses the denial of peer review to maintain its dogma.

It has been getting warmer for 12,000 years, since the last Ice Age ended, with cooling events as the Younger Dryas and Maunder Minimum (TRUE or FALSE?) The warming was natural then, not man-made (TRUE or FALSE?) When exactly did the global warming change from natural to anthropodic (man-made)? If you can't clearly delineate when the change occurred, then the warming must still be natural. See Occam’s Razor (lex parsimoniae, “the simplest explanation is more likely the correct one”).

@@coffeecake7222 1) The medieval warm period was an event local to Europe, not world wide. Climate scientists now understand that the Medieval Warm Period was caused by an increase in solar radiation and a decrease in volcanic activity, which both promote warming. Other evidence suggests ocean circulation patterns shifted to bring warmer seawater into the North Atlantic. They know what caused it, it isn't happening now. 2) 200 years ago when AGW started? Our CO2 production didn't really start to boom until the mid 1900s. Yup, but the industrial period started 200 years ago and there is about a 50 year delay between CO2 entering the atmosphere and the temperature responding. Also "CO2 increase also follows temperature by about 800 years. ie. Temperature increases, CO2 rises afterwards." Yes this is called a positive feedback loop, increased temp, reduced permafrost, more CO2 and also warmer water can hold less CO2 at the same atmospheric conditions. They know about it, it isn't causing this. "Did you seriously mention Mann's stupid hockey stick graph that he refuses to give the raw data for? Q1: It has been getting warmer for 12,000 years, since the last Ice Age ended, with cooling events as the Younger Dryas Event and Maunder Minimum (TRUE or FALSE?) - FALSE. Over the last 11,000 or so years temperatures have been relatively stable, though if you look at the Ice Core Data you see that about 5,000 years ago it was a fair bit warmer than it is today. Also to include Younger Dryas Event (YDE) & Maunder cooling events in the same category is to do a serious dis-service to the YDE. The Maunder minimum was a cooling event that most of humanity survived through mostly intact. The YDE was beyond anything we can imagine in its scale & devastation. Q2: True ;)

@td603 td603 yes it is difficult to conclude anything without hard data. But common sense suggests that something is a miss. I do have questions thou . What is the seal population? Has it been increasing or declining? Would the polar bear range change due to the shift of the north pole? As it has been moving towards Russia, to me that would suggest that the bulk of the ice would be near the Russian coast. I would think that by understanding of the seal population and it's food supplies and movements of these two are an important the location and the number of polar bears. One thing I can't stand is that everything is an crisis. Fear mongering adds nothing.

She still uses the 1979 marker as a starting point. Climate didn't exist prior. Bears are more of a danger because there's more people (and more bears). They're going to go to the dump because their food doesn't run away there... not because they can't hunt on the ice. The path of least resistance is in play.

How many predictions made in the 2006 movie “inconvenient truth” have come to pass? The answer can be very very precise. The answer is exactly zero! None! The arctic ice cap was supposed to be gone by 2012. Surprise! It’s still there, still fluctuating up and down . I loved the prediction that was made a few months ago from a Climate alarmist talk in Minnesota. She calmly predicted, “Duluth has seen its last minus 10 degree day.” 7 days later the temperature in Duluth was minus 31 degrees. The dreaded Polar Vortex, which we used to call “winter”, descended on the country in Late January and it decided to stay for a while. The arctic ice cap was above average for a while, then it was below average for a while. It’s almost as if there is natural fluctuation, combined with long term cycles, combined with medium and short term cycles, combined with earth’s axis wobble, combined with volcanic activity, combined with sun activity, etc. The only thing real scientists can categorically state right now is that climate is incredibly complex with a huge number of variables.

I'd never thought of this but greater sea ice extent might mean there is less prey for polar bears. Less sea ice would actually cause populations of polar bears to increase due to more greater availability and number of prey. There must be a balance with a mean that's optimal for populations of both prey and predator. This is my "duh" moment!

The truth comes out when she admits at the 23:25 point that the bear population has recovered due to new regulations on hunting. And I quote: "It's what populations of marine mammals do when unregulated hunting is stopped." In fact, the data agrees: the bear population has grown since regulations were enacted in the late 70s and then tightened further in some areas in the early 2000s.

Don't miss the critical point, though. At the 23:25 mark in the video, the scientist gives the reason why the bear population has rebounded, and I quote verbatim: "It's what populations of marine mammals do when unregulated hunting is stopped." Five countries agreed to sharply limit bear hunting in the late 70s. In some areas, these restrictions were tightened in the early 2000s. It's important to hear ALL of the information before leaping to judgements.

There was a decrease of the population going on for decades. No one argues that, and it's mostly all due to HUNTING. Once you established laws to prevent that, the population went into a upward direction. At some point in twenty years, I actually expect reports to indicate so many polar bears....that they are a threat now to other species of animals, and humans, with hunting them prescribed in order to correct the 'problem'.

Well, The population of polar bear has risen by a lot in the past 14 years and it's not necessarily good news if they keep increasing. Most of them live in a fragile ecosystem where a sharp rise of a top predators like Bears can unsettle the balance. "Since 2005, however, the estimated global polar bear population has risen by more than 30% to about 30,000 bears, far and away the highest estimate in more than 50 years" That sounds like good news but when you consider that in the 50s, the polar bear population was down under 5000, you can see where an increase of well over 600% can be bad news...
