I remember in Taipei, I heard a group of people speaking in a Singaporean accent. I remarked to my friend that those people are definitely Singaporeans. As I walked past them, one of them called my name - turns out that one of them was a secondary school friend of mine. The feeling of hearing a Singaporean accent overseas always makes me feel right at home.

My Malay classmate went to London for 2 years and came back with AMERICAN accent. She was good at faking it until one day she got really pissed off at someone and started arguing in Singlish. 10 mins later, her fake accent came back and BOOM, it became a BRITISH accent.

But just walk away cos stranger 😅 Couple of mins later as i sat at the phone charging area, the uncle walk towards to me n said " Hi are u a Singaporean?", and we laughed 😄 Uncle told me he could sense the Singaporean in me from afar too, and we both agreed there is somehow this connection that works like telepathy in us cos we share the same homeland 🥰 He ended the conversation with "come home soon after work!". Yes, Singapore is our home ❤

Anything with Kumar is always a hit..! But seriously, living in Jerusalem and hearing Singaporean accent gets me so excited every single time.. I also totally agree on Singaporean having an accent after living in a country for a couple of years. I lived overseas for close to 15 years and I still sound like Singaporean minus the singlish but when I'm back in Singapore, my singlish returning. I have so many friends from all over the world that has lived overseas, non of them have changed to the country that they've reside in for over 30 - 40 years

About Singapore culture. A HK taxi driver once told me the min a Chinese tourist open his mouth and talk he can tell which country he/she came from in Asia. For a Malaysian his Cantonese will have mix of Malay in it and a Singaporean there will be a mix of Hokkien, Malay and some that he does not even know. A Thai will speak like he is singing and an Indonesian Chinese will speak in Teochew or English.

true story: in 2013 I was leading a group of charity fundraisers on a house to house visit. It was for a famous local charity organisation. We had authorization, licenses and police permits per legal requirements. That particular evening I happened to visit a corner unit in a hdb flat. The door was opened and I heard voices, like there was a gathering. A lady greeted me at the gate and she was kheng hua. When I introduced myself and our purpose of visit, kheng hua said she wasn't the owner of the unit and she sweetly called "kooms, kooms, someone here at the door". Moments later, 'kooms' appeared at the door with a towel wrapped around her head. It was kumar. I reintroduced myself and purpose of visit. Kooms was very rude and shoo'd me right away for "bothering them". I politely thank kooms and walked away. Interestingly, it was just a few days before, kooms was paid to host an evening gala by our charity organisation. I'm sure kooms knew me cos I was wearing our official charity uniform and my ID around my neck. Till today, I had never received an apology from kooms who was rude and hostile. One was not obligated to say yes to us when we visited. But as a famous local celeb, that rudeness was unbecoming. I will never forget that uneventful evening. I have met many local celebs during our charity home visits and they were all lovely and kind. Eventhough some did not support, they were all very welcoming, offered us drinks, snacks and nice chit chats. But with both kheng hua and kooms, they were most hostile and treated me like I was a criminal at their door. Such painful experience.

If what you shared were absolutely true, then they confirmed that they are humans too and do have their dark sides like everyone else. But, as in all cases, it's your side and everything everywhere all at once must factor into the root cause of their behaviors. You caught them at bad timing, them busy, tired, frustrated under hot weather, sorting out personal matters...or do u have any bad history already with them or misunderstandings not resolved? U could have had reached out to them then to clarify or seek closure instead of carrying this hurt since 2013. Nothing is worth being a prisoner for regardless the cause. Get a new perspective and be happy before the world won't let u. Blessed be! Sayo. 🙏😇👍🌹
