Denise, you are a very special lady! My husband and I did this 2yrs ago. So very happy about the good news.❤

Thanks Tammy. But why do we cram our homes with stuff then get rid of it all only to start refilling? I need to declutter AGAIN. Geez.

Hurray! No change! That is happy news. I thought moving was a nightmare--but your story was the worst! So much stuff and so little time. Aren't you fortunate to have so many good friends to help you? And your handling of the sale itself sounded so pleasant--with treats, coffee and nice music. But now that I know that you ran a B&B, it seems natural that you would know how to make people feel cozy! When we moved out of our big house, we were moving to our "vacation" home, which was already furnished. After going back and forth between the two houses for a few years, we decided to sell the big house. Our son, who lived nearby, brought a UHaul and took what he wanted. Our daughter let us know what she wanted, so we hired movers to ship the items to her. Then, rather than having our own sale, we hired an estate sale company. While we were happily staying in our vacation home hundreds of miles away, the estate sale people came in and organized and priced all our stuff, they advertised the sale, and they conducted the sale. Anything that was left that could be donated was donated by them. They also took care of disposing the remainder. When we returned home the house was COMPLETELY empty! Not one thing was left for us to do. We hired a cleaning company who came in to make the place sparkle ... and our job was done. It still took a lot of work to get to that point, but we had this help to cross the finish line. Our next move was from our small house (ie, the vacation house), to our current place in Florida. By that time, we were in our 70s so things were quite a bit harder. But in the end, we survived that move too. I think the next move will be into the nursing home. Have you heard the term Swedish Death Cleaning? It is when you clean out your years of accumulation of "stuff" so that your children aren't burdened with all those things they don't want after you are gone. Seems like a good concept. I was lucky that when my Mom died a few years ago, my brother decided to keep her home as his "vacation" home, so we didn't have to worry about selling her house and all that involved. PS. Last month we had vaccinations for flu, RSV and Covid. Hopefully, we are as protected as we can be.

As more and more of my friends age and have health issues, we are all in the same place. Planning for a decluttered future somewhere. Thanks for sharing your story, Ann. The question I ask myself is Why do I keep buying STUFF? I should have learned my lesson. Have a great week.

@@travelsinmychair4140 I buy stuff because I convince myself that whatever it is will enhance my existence. I'm usually wrong about that. 🤣 Hope you have a great week too, Denise.

thanks Susaneh I remember the church ladies so clearly and how they started to see people in need differently. They were awesome and still are!

We went through downsizing about 5 years ago to a ranch. I sympathize!👍 We hired a junk service and threw away loads of stuff. Well worth the service.

great idea. Sometimes hiring someone to take care of all the stuff is worth every penny.
