Hi Andrea! Congrats and I was wondering if you can share where you had your prerequisites done? Were they completed at college or university level? I wanted to finish them at university level however it’s hard for me to register those classes and tbh I like the smaller sizes of classes at college.
@youmakemelaugh472 жыл бұрын
@@fionarob8371 I did them at community college due to scheduling and financial purposes. That ended up being fine even for highly ranked med schools. But you should aim for all A’s and a great mcat score to show them you didn’t take it at CC because you couldn’t hack it at university. Don’t get them any reason to doubt your academic preparedness! Good luck!

I believe if a nurse says, "she can never do that, in my opinion that means the nurse wouldn't be able to commit to the time it would take to becoming a MD, they may not have the patience, due to family or their lifestyle, they may not be interesting in becoming a MD, student loans, etc., they just do not consider themselves being a MD period, but at the same time they are giving you kudos. The opportunities are there for anyone to become a medical doctor or more, whether they are a CNA, nurse, NP or whatever, they just have to want it. Hate and discouragement from other nurses because you are going to medical school, kind of hard to believe. Another thing, one cannot compare nursing school with med school

Only my biology courses from nursing school applied. I took general chemistry, organic chemistry at a community college and biochemistry online. I took 1 course at a time while working full time as a nurse. So sometimes I took evening classes 2x per week or once a week on a Friday.

How old were you when you started medical school? And looking back now, was it all worth it? Like leaving a high paying job, flexible career? I ask because I’m also trying to discern whether I should pursue NP or proceed with MD route when I’m almost in my 40’s
@nursemdlily5 ай бұрын
I started at 29. One of our cardiologists was a prior NP who went to medical school at 45 and is now in her 70s. She was no longer in clinical practice but was teaching us medical students heart sounds. It is not too late for you! I would 100% choose medical school over NP school if I did it again. There’s just so many opportunities once you have an MD or DO. I get to be a radiologist because I went to medical school. med school was very worth it for me.

Hi, most US medical schools require you to be either a US citizen or a permanent resident to apply and also to have a Bachelor's degree from an American institution.

Also, if you have a foreign bachelors degree, check out schools that will accept it. Some school do after you do an evaluation with an evaluation service and also, they require you to have at least 36-60 credit unit in the USA. You can do this as a post bac. In the usa
