a surprisingly profound quote by Richard in this oddcast - "Wargaming is not a celebration of war as such - It's actually a positive way to remember and show respect for our forebears and to understand what their experience was all about"

Another great podcast. Just for interest, I was with the same battlefields tour group as Darren in Spain and Portugal in September, that you mentioned. It was absolutely superb. There really is no better way to appreciate the ground of the battlefields. Things I had read about suddenly made a lot more sense. The historian guide (Col. Nick Lipscombe) really knows his stuff and brought the battles to life. The tour was with 'The Cultural Experience' and I would definitely go with them again.

@@jasonb1776 Aha, The Cultural Experience have a great reputation. A very good friend of mine, Major General John Drewienkiewicz, runs some of their tours. I’ve never been on one but have accompanied him on his recce visits. Darren and I have gamed together for a long time. I used to give him a lift home from the club when he was too young to drive. Now he’s just retired! Not sure where all those years have gone.
