This song is so memorizingly beautiful. Feel like I'm flying and will never land. Then the song ends and I have to call the tower, get my feet bacon the ground, so I can push play and fly with the next Tool song on the list

Dude you're so in it around the 2.5 minute mark. Just listening, and feeling it and I LOVE that you're not following along to the lyrics by reading them and instead experiencing them. This track really shows Maynard's vocal capacity!!

On my first listen to the album, this was an outstanding song, mostly because I finally got to listen Maynard in full flash and I fell in love in the song. Then I went deep into the album and I fell in love in all other songs, but I think Culling Voices still stays as my favorite. It's a buildup masterpiece, it puts me into divine trance, makes me feel so good.

I feel like this song had a “regular” tool style structure with more drums and whatnot, and then in the studio they decided to go in this different direction. They did say this song was the one song that wasn’t 100% done before they recorded.

Seems to me like the heavy parts were written for Ænima then shelved.
@ouroboros91293 жыл бұрын
Where do you recall reading that? Because i remember reading in the Revolver issue that came out right before the album Justin said this is the only album that the band felt they went in and recorded each song 100 percent the eay they intended to have it recorded. He mentioned they always had regrets for studio tracks in retrospect in previous albums, but that this one was 100 percent done going in.
@ouroboros91293 жыл бұрын
And for the longest time, i felt this track was half-hashed. I didnt particularly care for it..simply put, it bored me to tears. But it has grown on me, big time. I really feel like it is perfect in this form. So contemplative, bitter, sad, beautiful in a melancholy dark autumn red-orange kind of way..then invigorating, enraging to a smoldering pulp...idk. i absolutely love it now.
@BrainWasherAttendent3 жыл бұрын
@@ouroboros9129 don’t remember where. I think it was Adam that mentioned something about culling voices having some elements that changed in the studio and with the type of song it is that makes sense. But definitely for the most part these songs clearly were all worked out before they hit the studio.
