That is just plain negligence on the part of the mechanic AND his manager. When my brother worked at Cairns Airport he made sure ALL tools were present before he signed off on any repairs and maintenance.

While Airbus found the spanner, the competitor is still looking for the bolts, my opinion is that gaffer tape is definitely the plane best friend.

Speed tape, not gaffers tape. Gaffers tape is used in photography and videography because it''s easily removed. Aluminum speed tape sticks and will frequently remove paint when removed.

Tools used on Western aircraft are usually imperial. Yes, even Airbus uses imperial nuts and bolts. Only cabin fixtures sometimes require metric tools, but not often.

All tools and tooling must be returned before the aircraft is released. There are shadow boards and store lists that must be checked before the release is given this means they KNOW the item was somewhere in the engine and made the decision to release the aircraft anyway

Starting to wonder if A&Ps need to do what Operating room nurses & techs do and keep track of every instrument and sponge count during surgery. You don't close the patient until instruments, sponges etc. are accounted for.
