In this video we go over the Tool and Fixture Offset Macros created by Aaron Gough to help streamline the offset settings. This also allows all the tools to have a positive offset.
Have questions about stuff I didn't cover? Have topics you want me to cover? Let me know! I'll gladly make a video to help share the Fadal knowledge.

Thanks for your hard work with the video...not sure if you're still doing your offsets this way as its a old video but there is a way less complicated way of doing it. Use the haimer to set your offsets directly and use a cheap 2" dial tool setter off the vice or table. Use your Haimer first to get your height with the 2" block off your vice and table and record those numbers...mine off the vice is -7.996" or something. Then when tool setting and it asks guage block just enter that -7.996". Fixture offset will be direct reading from your Haimer no need to mess around with Macros. I also never move the axis control knobs or step knobs...I always leave the rotary in Z and the steps at max. that way you have a bit of a safety buffer when you enter jog mode and have forgotten to move it back to Z...Just use x, y, z on your keyboard for axis control and H,M,L for step size...

@@bgwmachine 2 things that came to mind: How flat is your machine table? It'd be probably best to always pute the 1-2-3 block in the same location on the table. And it looks like you have some follow error left when not moving the machine? Shouldn't that be 0? A video about amplifier adjustment would be very interesting.. :)

Yeah, I would agree that I would prefer a newer control (also “grew up” on newer controls) but that of course is an issue cost wise for a home shop. I will admit though after digging through manuals I’ve gained a level of confidence with this older control and can do *some* things you can do in the newer controls - just not as user friendly.

I been trying to find more info on the Fadal at my job as to setting the G54 to G59 offsets like you would do on other CNC mills like a Haas. I'm not very familiar with the E1 and so on.

Macros are all well and good....but sometimes too many keystrokes for a particular application. For those that use the Haimer, on setting Z for your FO, just save the length of the Haimer in the memory of your calculator, do some simple math when touching off your part, and boom...there's your Z for that workpiece. No need for a macro in this case. It doesn't matter which piece you're setting Z for. As long as you have the length of the Haimer stored in the calc, then you'll be good to go. It's the way I've done it for years. Thanks for posting though!

I use an FTP server. You could also use USB or SD … both require a board install but I cover it all in another video I made: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5a7o4ybprCNptU

Great video. I was able to get this setup. However I found something interesting on the variables page for V2. I had originally entered my spindle height of -19.8304, I was able to run a program correctly. I then checked my variables page again and saw the -19.8304 had changed to -14.745. Does the variable 2 change or should it always reflect build table to spindle height?

igor egaña - Overall you need a connection to the machine whether that be USB, Floppy disc, FTP, or other. If I remember correctly, I believe the manual goes over some of this.... other than that, the only other option I could think of is manually typing.

do you know how this process would work with the renishaw probe? I just got my fadal powered up.
@bgwmachine
@bgwmachine 4 жыл бұрын
It would be similar but you wouldn’t have to manually keep track of positions/work offsets because the control would track that when you program with the macros - I think it should be talked about in one of the Fadal manuals (most likely the programming manual).

I can use a metric haimer it's just accounting for the tip diameter so shouldn't matter right?
@bgwmachine
@bgwmachine 4 жыл бұрын
Correct, just make sure you use the correct size probe tip - threads are the same but I think the diameters are 4mm? 6mm? and 1/4 in... I could be wrong on the metric size, but I know it’s not the same as the standard one so your measurement would be off if you used the wrong one.

yes, you could change it within the macros by changing the system variables it looks at within each program.

Why 9999 O-9999 wipes the memory on a fanuc system. I'd rather avoid any calls to 9999. I know you do not need to use 9999. It's just alarm bells going off.

Im not understand where you want to go with that if you measures all tools up through the spindle. going in the machine ,,, from the table ,, it never moves ,,, and all tools are measured ,, so just finding the distance from the table to the workpiece zero point G54 X0 Y0 Z 145.5 G55 G56 G57 G58 J1 ,, if you want to use haimer to set the zero point on the workpiece go to table and to zero on the haimer and add 2 inches if you use dial gauge
