@RockinTabs what pedals are you using to get that tone? Flanger, digital delay equ?
@RockinTabs10 ай бұрын
@skateboard4415 Unfortunately I used a software on this one that doesn't break down what amp/pedal simulators it uses. Going forward I'm using a new program that I'll be able to share exactly what I'm using. Look for a Pneuma video coming soon! I'll still try to describe how I got the tone though. It's a mix of 2 channels blended together. One EQ'd higher and one EQ'd lower. I actually scooped mids on both channels, one more than the other. Adam Jones usually pushes the mids pretty strong though. So not sure why I liked the scooped mids more on this one. The higher EQ channel has delay at about 30%. The lower EQ track has no delay and Gate set pretty high. Heavy reverb on the short riff in the beginning. Adam Jones uses 2 channels, one Marshall Super Bass and one Blue Face Diezel VH4 into a Mesa Boogie cab. He uses the Boss DD-5 Digital delay pedal.

I don’t know where this particular rabbit hole started but I’m glad I’m here! After not playing for a few months, I’ve blown the dust off my SG and officially started playing again! My fingers hurt like hell and it’s all your fault! Love the channel! Nice LP, btw…I’ve had it in my Sweetwater cart on more than one occasion. Someday I’ll pull the trigger. Probably sometime after this wife but before the next one 😏.

How do you do that sixteenth note triplet with the last note muted? Are you basically just doing two pull-offs, one on the 6th string and one on the (muted) 5th string?
@RockinTabs4 ай бұрын
Yes! You got it right. Adam Jones is the only one I've seen use this technique. It's one smooth pull off that pulls off the 6th string first and then the 5th string. Just need to practice it to get the timing down. He uses it in a few other Tool songs. Invincible and Jambi for sure.

You play the main riff DDD-UDDD-UDUUD-DUUD, i`m very curios is this how it comes to you or it`s Adams style? Thank you!
@RockinTabs6 ай бұрын
Great question! For this song, it was just how it came to me. When I have some time, I'll try to find some good videos to see what Adam's picking style is for this song. I'll report back if I can figure it out.

I don’t know why I struggle so much with this song and not other ones that look seemingly a lot more difficult
@RockinTabs10 ай бұрын
Some sections in particular are deceptively difficult. The one piece of general advice for the song I would give is that it's all about feeling the groove/rhythm. What sections in particular are you struggling with?
@Arlo46.210 ай бұрын
@@RockinTabsI think you hit the nail on the head with your response, just the groove and rhythm that I struggle to get right but I’ll get it with more practice

Brilliant. Do you think a novice could learn this in a year?
@RockinTabs Жыл бұрын
It depends on a lot of factors, but ultimately, I do think so. There's a few sections that are gonna be more of a challenge. I would focus on learning all the sections/riffs separately and then try to piece them all together once you have them down. It's a great goal to aim for. Have fun and let me know if you have any questions! 🤘

I just watched that part again in 1/2 speed and I'm pretty sure I'm playing that part exactly as tabbed. It's definitely an awkward part that's more about feeling it than thinking about it. Did you try watching it with the speed slowed down?
7 ай бұрын
@RockinTabs Nah watch again. So it should be: D string 5h6 then A string 5p0. Well that's what you play, and after learning it my self, sounds right.
7 ай бұрын
Sorry, after watching it slowed, you dont actually play the 6. My apologies! Another version I found has the 6 on the D string there, but I don't think its 5h6 just 5 then 6 then A string 5p0. Once again, my apologies! @RockinTabs
