I had tuned out/never heard this song for about 8 months until a couple weeks ago when it was playing and I finally realized what it was. Compared to most of their other stuff, this one's pretty intimidating and watching you play it made it easy for me to get started. Stay safe and be well, brother....

@theishjort Thanks alot man. I use a Diezel Herbert through a Mesa Boogie 4x12, and a 1980 Gibson Les Paul custom. For pedals I use a boss flange and delay, a goodrich volume pedal, a dunlop bb-535 wah, an eq pedal, and a boss psm-5 master switch pedal. This was mic'd with a shure sm-57.
@shreyaspai37919 ай бұрын
I keep coming back to this over a decade now. This guy is THE man when its Tool. I mean the tone is top notch, the nuances in his playing and everything makes him untouchable imo. Of course not all those who cover Tool songs want to sound exactly like the original and they could play in their own style too. But to be able to faithfully recreate not just the tone, but the accurate playing style as well is pretty insane. A lot of people have nailed down AJ's tone, but nobody does it as good when it comes to making the song FEEL like Tool and not just, 'sound' like Tool.

Dude, you rock Tool. I've been covering Tool for about 8 years, and still can't get the sound right. I know the tone comes alot from Adam's fingers themselves, but my fingers just arent thick enough. So, I tried one size bigger strings and it actually helped. I'm using 58-10 I believe. Ernie ball Super Slinks...of course. I need to get a Seymour Duncan in my bridge pickup, still using the Gibson ones in my studio Ultra 3, but my amp has alot of effects to add distortion and depth. Thanks for playing, and keep rocking!

Can anyone shed light on the lick at 5:25 - 5:30? I've looked at several tabs and its still unclear to me. I know its a combination of hammer-ons and pull-offs between 10, 12 and 13, but I'm fucked if I can get anything to sound right. PS, Im primarily a drummer/percussionist. Guitar is just a hobby I enjoy. Any advice from the pros on here? besides that part, and the crazy slide shenanigans, I think I have it almost learnt.
@markkinnin702710 жыл бұрын
And by having it learnt, I mean the basic outline of the song. I do nnot by any means think im on par with AJ or Mr Opiate here.

tremolo on the 10th fret and hammer on on the 12th and 13th frets. keep trying and you should get the rhythym. I think he mostly improvises it live so there probably isn't a "right" way to do it, try different timings and you'll eventually get it to sound the way you want it to.

We had this out of control bonfire party at the lake. Nate had a whole sheet of acid, and a quarter pound of weed. He was feeding acid to us like we were fishes eating pellets inside a fishbowl. There was a bottle of absynthe, and like 100 cases of shitty beer.
