In my experience the forged tips bend easily. The inserted spring steel tips are much more durable but maybe don't fit in quite as many places.

The difference in build between the two series is explained well. However, it is a pity you didn't explain the different uses for the 46 series and the precision series.

They do the same job the precision series just works better at holding the snap ring. The real question is why do they not sell a 45 degree option for the precision series.

I have all of the Knipex snap ring pliers. Even doing ball joints on Super Duty trucks (driven where roads are salted) is no issue for these tools.

I wonder if the tips in 49 series can be replaced if they were to wear off

The answer is no. Those tips are not coming out.

How do you determine the plier size needed for removing outside snap rings on a pivot joint piece of equipment. The ring looks like the diameter of a quarter.

49 is external and 48 is internal.
