Excellent tips and advice. I’m going to go shopping for the Shakemaster. At my age, I don’t have to set a timer for shaking a rattle can any longer. When my elbow starts to hurt, it’s been one minute, when my shoulder starts to hurt. It’s been two minutes. Looking forward to this series. Thanks for all you do ~ Chuck

I put the cans in the sun durring warm months and near a heat vent in the cold ones during the cold months which are 9 months out of the year here. I don't shake them long enough at times. By the way the word is that is a glass marble instead of a ball bearing. Probably much cheaper these days.

Kevin, yes, my reply is far more complicated than a simple answer, but at the end of the day: just because you (a person / business) are in the same industry than me, it does not automatically make you my competition /enemy / opposition. Sometimes, I prefer making some of them, just another person / business doing the same as I. Sometimes, they have an answer to a problem I'm having, and sometimes they ask me for an answer. Sharing "simple" tips like you do, and sharing knowledge, ripples also to a possitive. Although you will get those who will use your help to your own disadvantage. I am not a painter by trade, but I have learned so much from you, Brian, and other guys, that Im planning on fixing (painting) some panels on my wifes' car, and will there after try my 1st complete respray on a w203. (Nothing like a novice and being overconfident, hey...)

People have a hard time realizing that there is plenty of business/opportunity for everyone. I hear people bashing other companies too often and don’t like hearing it. Some people think you need to push others down to get ahead and it’s not the case. My younger brother is one of those people. He thinks everyone is gunning for him. I’ve tried to tell him 100 times that it’s all in his head.

I had cans that were cold and that’s when it comes out blotchy, I put them in really warm water and I’ll tell ya what.. they sprayed the most even and with Solid pressure. Ive never turned back. I leave them in the sun or heat up by water no matter what.

Almost 30 years ago I painted the Edelbrock breater cover a metallic blue to go with the metallic blue on my 72 Nova , I did several coats and waited in-between each coat , it's definitely ages but still is holding up

You might want to try some rattle can paint gun handle triggers or grippers. You can turn your spray can into a mini spray gun so your fingers don't hurt after pushing those tiny buttons too long I have a couple of different ones for the different tips on spray cans I used it on a simple item of using rust-oleum paint on a plant holder with the gun trigger and it seems to work well for me at least. You can find them at your local hardware store in your home town

One thing that I’ve always done for my rattle paint, is to let the can sit in a bath of moderately hot water till I can handle the can again, then shake for 30 seconds. Never had a problem with that nozzles clogging, and never run out of propellant. The warm water also increases the pressure of the propellant speeding up the process.

in a lot of paint cans its actually a clear glass marble, not a ball bearing. fyi love the content, keep it up! ive shot hundreds{if not thousands} of cans of Rustoleum , Krylon, and many others and love the tips from a pro .so heres one for you: if you find a spray nozzle you like. once your done spraying, slap it on a can of break klean and blow out the color/whatever for use elsewhere

I think 4 of the last 5 rattle cans I used started leaking out from under the air cap. Even the U-pol brand was doing it, was more expensive and had less material and didn’t go as far. It seems the less expensive the rattle can the better it is. So frustrating. I wanted to puncture the can and pour the paint into my gun and spray it that way. I was too chicken to do it though.

I've actually built 3 custom choppers and painted them with rattle cans.... All three won their class at the shows, some multiple times. I owned a motorcycle shop for 20 years. I built only one custom bike a year, mainly just for fun and advertising. Those first two, were the biggest winners in my mind. The very last one, that is still sitting in my yard, was painted with HOK Candy Brandy Wine over raw grind steel from rattle cans. After 6 years of sun exposure it's showing it's age, so I'll end up repainting it before my son comes to get it. Red is the worst fading color there is.... now it kinda looks orange.

Funny how painters are always looking for the perfect finish, and I've done a lot of experimenting on how I can make spray can paint react badly to get an artistic effect when I'm painting guitars, I really love getting that reptile skin effect in black then clearcoating it in, something you wouldn't want on a car but makes a cool guitar.

Painted my cars bumper from raw ABS this summer. Adhesion coat, Primer, base and clear 7 cans of paint total and my elbow was killing me for weeks after all that shaking.

Thats a cool tool Kevin. When the kids were little, Id hand them a spray bomb and tell them to shake it up for me until it quit making a noise. Lol. I could only get away with it a couple of times though😅

Can also be done cheaper with a long blade (put a piece of duct tape on it) and two hose clamps big enough to go around a spray can.

watching the first few seconds of your video, watching you with the paint shaker, made me wonder if you've finally inhaled too many paint fumes. LOL Just joking, you've taught me quite a bit. When it comes to shaking a rattle can, (I don't really know if this works better or not, but it's what I do), I turn the can upside down and shake it in such a way that the ball bearing migrates its way to the (now) top of the can. I shake it in circles, as well as back and fort, specifically to try to agitate the solids from where they've come to rest from sitting on a shelf for god knows how long. Too my mind, turning the can upside down also takes advantage of the gas is now at the bottom of the can, and when I shake it, the solvent is sloshing around, actually causing the solids to break free from the bottom of the can faster, from surface agitation of the liquid hitting the crevice in the corner of the can, that the ball bearing cannot come into contact with. Don't know if this is an effective tech tip, it's just what I do.

Weld thru primer now that to me is interesting I get it but maybe you could explain that one brother Is it snake oil ? What if you used say a metallic spray paint is just for ground? Silver spray is cheap conducts electricity 😮 just wondering out loud brother love what you do.

Not snake oil. The resins in paint are designed to build up, and will burn with the heat of a welder, eliminating the protection that a true weld-thru gives. Weld thru primer is thin, high concentration of metal, and contracts back toward the HAZ as it cools, providing rust protection right around the weld. Paint just burns off.

Used one before. Lightly clamp in vise and use a zip tie on tigger , easist 2 mins ever.

Typically, that's a moisture/humidity issue.... we used to have that back in the day spraying Lacquer clear... Warmer air temp, and a warmer surface will help!. Good luck!

Drives me crazy when I see someone shake a can for 15 seconds and try to paint with it. I set the timer and shake for at least 2 full minutes.

Rattle can paints have come a LONG way in the last 10 years, I use spray paint all the time, not just on cars.trucks but I build Model Cars as well. That being said I disagree that there is no such thing as "Bad Paint" and "Cheap Paint", Wal-mart recently got rid of their Color place paint, which was awesome paint for models BTW, and started selling a brand called "Quick Color" brand paints and it's GOD FU(KING AWFUL Paint, it's just absolute JUNK.

I agree. The Quick color is straight garbage. 3 coats of Quick Color is the equivalent of 1 coat of a cheap Rustoleum. I also liked the Color Place paints, they were great and had a vast assortment of colors. Walmart didn’t carry it for very long though. I wonder why every time I’m in Walmart.

@@savage6394 they carried the Color place paint for over 30 years...... You can still buy it but you have to buy it off the internet. I REALLY liked their primers and flat paints. Years ago I used a couple of cans of Color place flat black to paint the hood of a 64 Plymouth Belvedere because I was in a hurry to get to a last minute benefit car show and it lasted that entire show season.

I've also been a self employed entrepreneur for a couple decades, and when I see a guy with some hustle, skill, and a sense of humor, I want to dig in and support them!
