The main issue with this that people are overlooking is how hard it is to lower a hoop on all courts. Right now, any hooper at any level can pull up anywhere and practice. If one professional league has lower rims, they can only practice at courts with their designated rim height.

I don't understand how lowering the rim is such a difficult thing to "adjust" to. Bro if you play hoops at any level, even if you're bad at it, you would know that not all courts are the same. Not all rims are at the same height, hell, even rims on the same court are not always level to each other. Hoopers would still hoop. The only reason they're so against it is because of their pride. By lowering the rim, they think it's admitting that they are inferior. Too much pride on these women sometimes, the insecurity is just insane.

The pride argument doesn't make sense They already play less minutes less games in a season with smaller balls on smaller courts with closer 3pt lines to the rim So now all of a sudden the rim height is were the line can't be crossed

A majority of these characters, if not all, were written by men, so your understanding of the character is through the lense of that. It's why it's often easy to see when a film is written by a woman when you have male characters because the vision of them is through the lense of someone who hasn't experienced that life - they emulate what they assume that life to be. That and a lot of you were younger and more open to things when growing up lol

@@lsdrochaMen's football is oversaturated with talents and hyper-competitive which is a direct opposite of women's football. @@lsdrocha In the world cup, the male footballers are being paid 7% of the total revenue while the women were paid 20%. Yet the women are still earning *SIGNIFICANTLY LESS* because their total revenue is far less than the men's! So before you come up with with that stupidity, educate yourself with how the payment structure works first. In case you still don't get it, men football attracts hundreds times more audience than female football. That's why they're being paid more, because they produce more on both quality and quantity. USWNT winning the World Cup doesn't mean they should be paid more than the USMNT, because they're still in the women's category, and they're still attracting less audience hence the revenue is still way lesser. Really, educate yourself. Talk based on logic and facts, not feelings.

I'm glad we were followed up with getting to move on from the USWNT not winning the world cup this year with the ever delightful Coco Gauff winning the US Open. The woman is 19 and she's already displayed more emotional empathy, maturity, and recognition of what position she's in and how she can use it as a platform for good. Put into perspective, I have little to no interest in tennis (I grew up play ice hockey, so I gravitate more towards contact sports) but Ms. Coco immediately has become my favorite athlete on the planet right now strictly because of her humility and demeanor. People like Megan Rapinoe don't need to "take notes" because people like Megan Rapinoe won't understand what that means.

My favorite part about the whole 'wnba players don't wanna lower the rim because muh integrity' argument is that they always fail to see the bigger picture, and I'm not even talking about the entertainment factor. Forget about the possible entertainment value you get from it for a second. Lowering the rim would also just add more scoring variety for players that might be taller than average that don't have great shooting abilities and are mostly relegated to just being rim protectors/defensive anchors/screen layers. Those players would then have a viable option to contribute on the offensive end more reliably. For all intents and purposes, dunking in women's basketball is largely seen as an impractical shot attempt, even for some of their tallest players, meaning that they don't even have incentive to practice those kinds of shots which is why their dunks always look so sloppy in the first place, even on wide open rims. Yeah, Candice Parker, Lisa Leslie, Brittany Griner, they don't know how to dunk. They're just fortunate enough to be able to get up and make enough contact with the hoop to toss the ball in directly. But they don't actually know how to dunk correctly. Dunking is a type of shot that needs to be practiced just like any other in basketball. WNBA teams aren't going to make their players practice a shot that 99% of the league can't make on a regular basis. Lowering the rim would only increase the overall possible talent pool and give players more avenues to contribute in unique ways, and make a shot that is seen as unviable in your sport be an actual, viable option that's worth putting the time in to practice for once. But I guess these women are really that scared of ACTUALLY putting the work in. They don't want their game to grow and evolve. They don't want to actually learn a new skill and add it to their game like any other reasonably competitive person would love to have. They don't want that new challenge. They don't want their players on the court to have more offensive options and ways to express themselves out on the floor. And they don't want that smoke when reality knocks on their door. They just want to hold each other back like crabs in a bucket while they continue to whine about problems THEY created themselves while they are continuously bailed out by their Daddy that is the NBA year after unlucrative year. Pathetic.

I actually understand why they don't want to lower the rim, I can't dunk either but I still rather play on rims with a standard height. So I get that but then don't complain about not getting paid enough when they already getting a salary for playing basketball. With that stupid logic everyone who plays organized basketball should get paid millions. We should all start complaining too maybe it works
@Jaymez2012
@Jaymez2012 Жыл бұрын
@@erikfassbender4754 Really? Because I can't, especially when considering all the other accommodations made for them like a smaller basketball, shorter 3-point line and less minutes per game. Yet, lowering the rim is where the line is drawn? And it's not a situation where only a selective few gifted women players can dunk. Literally no one can dunk. Not every player can dunk in the NBA either, but enough can to create more distinct diversity in each player's individual game, which was the major point of my original comment. There is literally no world where that could ever be a bad thing.
@gamble777888
@gamble777888 Жыл бұрын
Lowering the rim isn't fixing anything. Problem is that basketball is one of the sports that is most dependant on athleticism which is why the difference between the pro male and female leagues is so abysmal. Soccer and tennis, both much popular female sports, are not so reliant on raw athleticism so the spectacle is much more similar. You could have a 8 foot hoop and that's not gonna make woman be able to pull off an under the legs dunk or a 360 dunk. They just don't have the same fast twitch muscle fibers that give male NBA players the crazy explosiveness that is the visual appeal from a spectator standpoint.
@chieflancewaiters
@chieflancewaiters Жыл бұрын
Don’t agree with the more scoring variety point when there have been plenty of tall, low skill nba players where the hoop height isn’t a problem. Why shorten the hoop for a Gobert when a Kareem has shown tall players can be highly skilled. Plus how excited are y’all really getting when someone like Curry or CP3 dunks, it’s not like these women are about to be Vince Carter flying through the air either way.
@Jaymez2012
@Jaymez2012 Жыл бұрын
@@chieflancewaiters And I don't get what point you're trying to make when 90% of the players in the league we're discussing is low skill where the hoop height is literally a problem when considering whether developing a new skill would be viable? Tall players that can dunk in the nba vs ones that can't isn't scoring variety? Again, enough people in the nba can dunk to create that diversity between aggressive around the basket players and finesse-driven outside shot players. The dunk just adds another form of expression and layer to the equation. Where as in the wnba literally no one can dunk because the shot is seen as impractical and not worth practicing across every player in the league because the rim is too high. And, once again, I AM NOT arguing this from a SPECTATORS perspective. Fucking read. I don't care how how excited people may or may not get when Steph or CP3 dunk. Wnba players make it clear that they don't care how much people get excited for their game as it currently is now so why should I? That wasn't the point of my original comment. The point is to offer the players a new avenue to learn a new skill that's worth practicing, which is something most wnba players make clear they don't want to do. Which is an issue.

She was with a top level championship winning team with teammates who were themselves multiple time champions in their own right yet she couldn't muster up a better average finish than 18th place in her entire time with them. But nothing was ever her fault, her own teammates were "out to get her", the team wasn't "supporting" her enough or they were "purposefully giviing her inferior machinery.", or nascar was "screwing her over". Then when she finally gave up and retired her farewell statement was too literally throw everyone she was working with at Stewart-Hass along with nascar and the fans under the bus then drive over them. They might not have made it to the Cup level like Danica Patrick (because she was propped up), but they showed that they were competitive in the lower levels (Jo Cobb in the Truck Series, and Robinson in ARCA). Do I think a female driver can be successful in the Cup Series? With the right team and enough talent I would not bet against it. Of course not, they’re pros and if anything the amount they’re affected by is very minuscule. Nothing but excuses as to why they don’t want to lower the rim. The same people who cheered her, turned on her and cheered when she got KO'd by Holm, then Nunes.

I'm glad the concession was made that at least some of the flak they cop is gender based. While I agree with the core assertion - that it's arrogance and entitlement that turns people against athletes of either gender - I would suggest that their is still a different level of tolerance for those traits according to gender. Even an assertive woman, let alone an arrogant one, can ruffle a lot of male feathers. It was interesting to watch this from an Australian perspective, because compared to the USA we have practically NO tolerance of arrogance from any sportsperson. We will interview someone straight after they've played the most brilliant game seen, TELL them that they were brilliant, and pillory them as 'wankers' if they dare agree with the assessment. They have to stick to the self-effacing script "Oh look it was a great game by the whole team, I'm just glad to get the points..." and perhaps we can allow them to have a little smile and say "well it was nice to get a few goals" as long as they still give most of the credit to their team mates.

Look I’m a massive USWNT fan and I dislike Rapinoe because she’s conceited, but I have nothing wrong with their equal pay movement. I think they have every right to want to be paid equally because women’s sports have been at a disadvantage for so long. The argument that they bring in less revenue is technically true, but that’s because women’s sports haven’t existed as long as men’s, they aren’t funded nearly as well, and so the training hasn’t been on the same level. People tend to use the argument that women’s sports are less entertaining and the women aren’t as good but think about how long it has taken for there to even be a pro women’s soccer league in the US. Think about all the countries that don’t even have women’s professional sports programs. The women’s game will always be behind and they will always be paid less until someone makes the move to close the gap. If they truly want to say men and women are equal and make up for the neglect of women’s sports in the past, they should close the gap.

Notice how the WNBA is also the ONLY time in American sports where it matters what the players think. NFL players have to fight to get grass fields because turf sucks. Does the league care? Nope. Because they're men. If the WNBA was actually equal, they'd lower the rims regardless of what women think.

Honestly, I feel like so many women that I meet today are like this. There’s a certain moral high ground and entitlement that the extreme “woke” people are. We are all flawed, and we all say things that need to be fixed. When that guy asked the WNBA player about lowering the rims, he asked it genuinely and was offering a potential solution to a dying sport that is parasitical to the NBA and costs a deficit of over $60 million. Her response is “that one of the most offensive…” I will probably never watch a WNBA game in general, but the attitudes that these supposed athletes exude are so offputting neither me nor my friends will watch or root for that.

Prime example, Chiefs winning was a nice change of pace in the NFL. Now that they show swifty every game after every offensive first down or catch is the reason why KC is getting so much hate right now. Fans care about the sport, what happens between the lines. Nobody wants to hear about your opinion on anything but the profession you are in. We don't care about the outside noise, we tune in to watch sports not protests. Two more things to point out. Firstly, ALL WNBA athletes play or used to play in Europe during the off-season. So, by default they made more money than they let on. And, wait a minute, they didn’t ask their teams in Europe for equal pay as the men, did they? Imagine them going to their Turkish or Russian bosses to ask them for more money… Secondly, I watch a lot of European women’s soccer. It’s slower and sometimes clumsier than the men’s but I like it. Never, and I mean never has any player EVER talked about money either on team or national level. They let the market decide what they are paid. There was a rebellion in the Spanish national team, but it was for many other issues, EXCEPT money. And one more thing. It’s nice to see that American players, both men and women are making more money than many of their compatriots will make in a lifetime, TO PLAY ONE GAME FOR THEIR NATIONAL TEAM.

Your example of LeBron James is EXACTLY why I cannot stand that person to this day. When he cried "That was the shot that I felt I became the GOAT" was the final nail in that coffin. When you are good, you need to tell people you are good and back it. When you are great, others tell you that you are great. And for the simps: longevity is not a measure of greatness. There are a LOT of younger players coming up now that are far better and will be in the league as long, if not longer, because they learned how to have long careers by watching him. LeBron's records will be erased quickly by these next gen players.

Kareem sets the all-time point record after 20 years (longevity achievement) and we’re throwing parades, Vince Carter averages 7p in year 21 and he gets a farewell tour…. Bad attitude is the key factor. If you take a look at any big champions (like absolute top of the top) you'll quickly realise that even if they know since the very beginning that they WILL win, they're always humble, respectful. Even if the gap is huge, for example chess world champion (of all time ?) Magnus - he goes to the park, plays with random people and he is always so respectful. During game he gives hints, shows the glimps of his mind, appreciates clever move (even if he sees "everything" so he is able to mitigate such good clever move), or says something like: "if I win" (i'll do this or that). Not "when I win" which is actually totally obvious. My point it - If you would put any kind of these pseudo-stars against him, sitting on the chess board and Magnus gave them some sort of hints, they would BASH him, they would be arrogant, and of course would blame patriarchy and god knows what. This is horrible, absolutely toxic and has nothing to do with sport attitude. They're not real sport athletes (i mean these ... us clowns, sorry, you cannot name them differently - arrogant clowns). Arrogance, absolute no respect. I wouldn't like ie. my kids watching such "sport stars" ever. Sport has values - completely different that they promote. (arrogance, hate, ignorance, victim mentality, me me me, total lack of respect to better than you) And the funniest thing is - their skill is same as ... 14-year old boys. Maybe that's the reason why they behave like this - deep down below they know the truth and there is nothing they can do about it. This best soccer player - i can say with 99.9 % confidence: me from high-school would crush her at any kind of football / soccer competition (1 on 1 game, shooting, dribbling, any kind of physical like strength, stamina, speed comparison etc.). And I was just hmm quite talented (when I was 8-9 yo, i played with 12-13) typical teenage from Europe, similar to thousands of other teenagers. How do I know it ? Well, even on the TV you can see absolute inferior technique, speed, strength, individual skills, vision compared to any junior level boys football team from any European country / high-school (that is not even sport oriented, so people playing there won't become professional football players) whatever..

The women would now have two leagues to compete with rather than just the NBA with its 10-foot rims. Keeping the rims at 10 feet will keep basketball at its elites/ professional style that the normal wants to see. Yes some are annoying, just like in men’s sports, but there is an overall condescending attitude when it comes to women’s sports. The type of hate they get vs the hate annoying male athletes get is not the same. The attacks on their characters becomes attacks on women’s abilities to play sports, their looks and their intelligence. This is not the case for annoying male athletes. You cannot deny some of the hate comes from pure sexism, the problem is labeling ALL hate as sexism.
