That Basie soundtrack with B & W for that grainy, gritty, hard-boiled flavor makes this detective series best of era. Marvin gets some decent scripts in this, now, the second season.

Man The whole Police Squad episode was a direct ripoff of this one. Half the time I was hearing the narration in Leslie Nielson's voice in my head...

I like Dragnet, but I know every single episode, including the later one (1967-1970) as well as the radio Shows. M squad is newer to me, I've seen season one, but not the others.

Dragnet was a snoozer hoping to instill learning in the public. That didn't work as we now have WOKE. Wake up America.

Listening to Lee Marvin and Broderick ('Highway Patrol') Crawford's voices; I'd say they were the inspiration for 'Officer McGruff'.

He also fought in the Marshall Islands campaign. That's where he saw the majority of his combat. He was badly wounded on Saipan in the opening days of that campaign. RIP PFC Lee Marvin, USMC. You still have many, many fans.

Crime show in competition with Peter Gunn at the time. Both shows had music interludes, but in this show the combo music was faked. In Peter Gunn, the musicians actually played live.

he was co-owner of the show. In a 1958 interview, he said he was looking forward to the residuals. I'm not sure how much rerun action this series got, but at least he was thinking like a businessman.

Interesting. Not a lot of cops in the fifties took a shooting stance with both hands on the gun, or at least used both hands to control it. Lee Marvin was ex-military but I don't know if that's where he picked it up. I've seen WWII training videos of soldiers shooting the 1911 pistol one handed so maybe not.

23:59 - this is the moment that was captured as the thumbnail image for the video. He has a very unorthodox way of looking down the sight of his pistol when he shoots. He shoots right-handed, and uses his right eye to look down the gun, which is proper. But he turns his head to the right so that his right eye is off to the side, and his squinted left eye has the predominant position, which is weird. Turning his head to the right like this pushes the bridge of his nose, and his furrowed brow due to squinting, into the line of sight he needs for his right eye, to line up the sights on his gun and aim. Seems like that would intrude onto his scope of vision......
