Enjoying local talk. My 5 yr old hapa haole nephew came home one day many years ago and said to his haole auntie (me),.... look what I can say. He then spoke in Pidgin to me very proudly. I grinned and said can you teach me.....he looked up and said NO! Next I asked him how am I going to learn Pidgin.....at which point he said you have to listen. End of conversation. Mahalo so we can listen and learn for those of us who love Hawaii.

I grew up dealing with the word Haole, it was an interesting experience when I moved to Maryland, in a county where African Americans made up the majority of the population. He's right about how most people with treat you as local as soon as you start speaking. LOL he is also right about getting into scraps, I remember quite a few until I shot up like a been stalk. I remember my mom (who was military) getting bad service where ever she would go, to the point where I would do all the talking at restaurant, shops, etc. There's a small percentage of people that don't make the distinction and it is sad.

I'm all caught up on the FB lessons, so reviewing the ones now on KZbin. Thanks for all the parsing! One thing I don't understand, though: I get the "Ha" and the "A'ole" in Haole, but what about the prefix? Is "Dam" some kind of honorific or something, 'cause that's the only way I ever heard it used when locals were talking to me! ;-D

You know from some of my previous video that I have been searching for a groove and this Pidgin thing just might be it. It is what I did early in my comedy career here in Hawai‘i and it is me returning to my roots. Plus, I would like to see the national networks who have been ripping my ideas try an lift this one. Good luck. Have you noticed how my views have jumped? I think I will be doing this for a while. I miss the bike vids but these are fun and relatively easy to shoot. Thanks again Bro.
