At first I thought he was saying something like, a plea to save him before he fades away into the grey. Then when I read the lyrics it made me love the song even more because I realized what he was really saying. It gave the song an entirely different feel and meaning to me. The whole "I'll make the same mistakes, I'll never know who I was before I faded away into the grey" line just hit me so hard. It just went to an entirely different level once I learned that it wasn't a plea for someone to stop him from fading away into the grey, it's more of a final plea for that one last lousy person he still has to please stick around bc I've already faded away into the grey and I don't know who or what I even am anymore or what will become of me once I truly have no one left. Just made me love this song 50x more than I already did. This is the first band and full album that I have truly LOVED in 2 decades. No lie. I pretty much gave up on music in the mid to late 90s. Except for Tool, but that's a whole other story lol.
