Good day to you Ray, usually it's 0.65mm to 0.75mm. Any thickness will do. About the type, as long you have the proper color shade. It will do. Happy crafting!

is there a template for the right shin armor? and what size foam did you use for all of it?

Hello Cyto, I am not sure about the template. I think there is. You just have to search to any pepakura groups or the RPF. I just did free hand. I used 4mm and combine with 3mm for the embose details. Thanks!
