Lyrics:
It took so long to remember just what happened
I was so young and vestal then
You know it hurt me
But I'm breathing so I guess I'm still alive
Even if signs seem to tell me otherwise
I've got my hands bound
My head down, my eyes closed
And my throat's wide open
Do unto others what has been done to me
Do unto others what has been done to you
I'm treading water
I need to sleep a while
My lamb and martyr, you look so precious
Won't you, won't you come a bit closer
Close enough so I can smell you
I need you to feel this
I can't stand to burn too long
Release in sodomy
For one sweet moment I am whole
Do unto you now
What has been done to me
Do unto you now
What has been done
You're breathing so I guess you're still alive
Even if signs seem to tell me otherwise
Won't you, won't you come on a bit closer
Close enough so I can smell you
I need you to feel this
I need this to make me whole
Release in sodomy
Have you witnessed
Blood and flesh can't be trusted?
Have you witnessed
Blood and flesh can't be trusted?
And only this one holy medium brings me peace of mind
Got your hands bound, your head down
And your eyes closed
You look so precious now
I have found some kind of temporary sanity in this
Shit, blood and cum on my hands
I've come 'round full circle
My lamb and martyr, this will be over soon
You look so precious
You look so precious
You look so precious
You look so precious
You look so precious now
You look so precious

Shalom 1 Thessalonians 6:16-18 Rejoice evermore.Pray without ceasing.In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you./Inspiration+Is there any other place in your life that you feel that you really "rejoice" other than at Church? Do you take time out of your day to explicitly pray to God, or is it constantly happening in the way you talk and act? Are you grateful for everything or are you sometimes bitter when things don’t go as you hoped? Think carefully about this passage, because if you implement the changes that these verses command, your entire life view will be positively altered. Think about it and you will discover that you already know it is true. /Prayer+ All the glory be to God! I wish to have no evil in my thoughts, precious Lord Jesus, and hope that every moment of my life is spent rejoicing in Your name. I know that I am not perfect; no, I am far from it. Forgive me for neglecting the virtues bestowed on me by You, and help me to pray constantly in the subconscious of my mind. If I do this, I know that every moment of everyday will be filled with thanksgiving, as I feel with this prayer. Amen.

I was sexually abused last year by a "friend", the first days after what happened were hell for me, I had to go to the police station almost every day, I will never forget the painful injections they gave me in the hospital and that made me cry, the fear of eating because the pills I was taking were very strong for me, for 7 months the relationship with my mother was based on lies because I did not want to worry her, the scar on my left wrist is still visible reminding me that if I'm still alive it's because I shouldn't die that way. When I heard this song I obviously remembered everything that happened that night, however, something unusual was that in a way it did not affect me in a bad way, in fact, quite the contrary. I mean: I interpret the song as the victim is now the executioner, making his/her aggressor pay for all the damage that s/he has done to him/her. Whether through justice or my own hand, I will make that motherfucker who tried to ruin my life "look so precious now." Thank you Tool for making me feel braver than ever and helping me draw strength when I thought I didn't have it💕

While I have not experienced sexual abuse personally, I am close to someone who has and I can tell you that it can be a very tough thing to move past, especially when you were very young and the people you should have been able to rely on for help simply looked the other way as though it’s a rite of passage to let the uncle have his way. In some perverse way of thinking, it’s somehow easier to turn a blind eye to the offender and pretend it didn’t happen.

Sober put me on notice, but this song is the one that made me realize how talented Tool was a band. Because I don't care if it's dubbed metal or not, this song to me always spoke to me of blues and funk roots. When I read that Danny Carey was trained as a jazz drummer it cemented my assessment. I know blues and funk when I hear it. Blues is a precursor to jazz and jazz is precursor to funk Amazing

The drums on this album are Danny Carrey's more straight forward, but at the same time if u listen close and try and pick out the parts, they're very intricate. Take Prison Sex, if a drummer listens closely, that song is very difficult and can only be played if one is at a certain level on the kit.

I had a situation happen to me when i was either 12 or 13. It was during after one of the major hurricanes we would get almost once a year back in 2006/07 and i was left with my aunt and uncle at their lake front home cause they had a generator with power. To make a long story short, i was abused in ways i couldn't comprehend by my cousin ( "Have you witnessed that blood and flesh can't be trusted?") and it took until my 20's until it really started to effect me. Im almost 30 now and it still effects every aspect of my life. Ive never been able to talk about it with anyone or confront who did this to me but i at least have the comfort of this song that tends to understand me more then anyone i know in my life anymore. You can tell why Maynard chose to stop playing it live, alongside his mother asking him not to perform it anymore before she died. The all too personal trauma opening old wounds for him and her shame at a (step) father figure doing that in their home. He's dealt with the anger and moved forward but it's the sort of thing that he regrets writing now,although I would argue it's an important piece of music. Likely one of the greatest songs about abuse ever written because of disturbing and real it is dealing with the cycle and its effects on the abuser, abused and bystanders.

@@korkunctheterrible4302 Isn't revenge often times an interconnected part of projection?
@korkunctheterrible4302
@korkunctheterrible4302 3 жыл бұрын
@@traceantonacci2495 TL; DR: Projection is misdirected and therefore unwarranted. Revenge is not. I beg to differ. A doing X unto B, leading B to do X on A is revenge. A doing it to B and B doing it to C is not revenge, it's a simulation of revenge. The common element is the craving for role reversal, and restoring integrity. The huge differences are: revenge is when an action warrants punishment and is the effect of a cause, while projection of this sort is a misdirected effect of the same cause in a similar scenario. When violated people hope the violator to be violated the same way, they yearn for 1) punishment for the damage done 2)a permanent change in the doer of the misdeed by force, either leading them to deal with the hand they dealt others and thus have an inkling of what empathy is, or rendering them unable to do further misdeeds that are similar, again by punishment of sorts (e. g chemical castration) Punishment itself makes examples of these people to let societies now actions will have consequences. Permanent change is to make sure not only society gets the message, but also the action will not be repeated by the same person. In other worse revenge that is properly taken is functional and projection isn't. In fact if you want people to stop harming others because someone else harmed them, you have to put in place a mechanism that enables proper revenge because otherwise no one will take seriously a system that rewards the misdeed and punishes the victim. It's this that increases cases of vigilantism. Laws are made and if the laws that are made by the people are not for the people, then people will be out looking for blood. To win over the traumatized victim or the offender? Everytime those who believe in rehabilitation no matter what the crime or who the perpetrator is, tell victims that punishment is wrong, they are making a choice. Sorry for the rant but I should let you know that I had worst sexual offenders with very light sentences in Northern European countries in mind when I was saying this.
@traceantonacci2495
@traceantonacci2495 3 жыл бұрын
@@korkunctheterrible4302 I actually really appreciate the rant, it helped me understand your position a lot better. When you say the victim would want their offender to undergo a permanent change that would lead them to greater empathy you give the example of chemical castration. In your opinion, do you think that if someone were to gain that empathy without having been punished, and also took steps to remedy their wrong (as an example, William Chester Minor in "The Surgeon of Crowthorne") would that person need punishment, and if no punishment was given to that person would other people try to enact punishment on them? And then why or why not?
@korkunctheterrible4302
@korkunctheterrible4302 3 жыл бұрын
@@traceantonacci2495 Thanks for not hating the wall of text. Personally, I don't know many cases where the offender regrets anything other than going far enough to get caught and convicted, however, as long as there's at least one case where the offender truly regrets it, I don't think punishing would maintain its function, then. I don't know the case you referred to, I will look it up, but how does one make sure one can feel regret and empathy? Even the fMRI machines can be fooled. Lots of gray areas there, where psychopathy is of concern, don't you think? In theory, if such things could be proven then all I'd expect of that person as a citizen would be that they explore their own psychology, let others know more about its mechanism, without glamorizing or dramatizing any perspective. I'd expect them to make critiques of the society and the system they live in, come up with their own analyses as to the whys and hows, without letting any "expert" butt in, at first. Some of this really seems to depend on the nature of crime committed too. If someone knows what they're doing is absolutely wrong and yet they cannot help themselves, and there's no quick solution to it, I think people have a right to stay away from them. Same with psychopaths, the so called "high functioning" psychopaths included. At that point it becomes a matter of future safety. What's your take on all this, if I may?

It took so long to remember just what happened. I was so young and vestal then You know it hurt me But i'm breathing so i guess i'm still alive Even if signs seem to tell me otherwise. I've got my hands bound and my head down and my eyes closed. My throat wide open. Do unto others what has been done to me Do unto others what has been done to you I'm treading water I need to sleep a while. My lamb and martyr you look so precious. Won't you won't you come a bit closer, Close enough so i can smell you. I need you to feel this, I can't stand to burn too long. Released in sodomy. For one sweet moment I'm whole. Do unto you now what has been done to me. Do unto you now what has been done You're breathing so i guess you're still alive Even if signs seem to tell me otherwise. Won't you won't you come just a bit closer, Close enough so i can smell you. I need you to feel this. I need this to make me whole. There's release in sodomy. For i am your witness that Blood and flesh can be trusted. And only this one holy medium brings me piece of mind. Got your hands bound, your head down, Your eyes closed. You look so precious now. I have found some kind of temporary sanity in this Shit blood and cum on my hands. I've come round full circle. My lamb and martyr, this will be over soon. You look so precious. You look so precious now.

So I got a Mandela thing, because I swore that this song was on a car commercial, but after looking it up or realize that it isn't. First is anyone else remember something like that? And second what could I be mistaken this for?
