Our morning and evening kid checklists are posted on a magnetic board. Each task is numbered, has a picture of & the words for the task. One child uses magnets like a gameboard to cover up the ones they've done, so it's a reusable checklist in that way.

OMG the bracelet idea is insanely genius! I wish I had had that as a kid. I'm totally implementing it for both the kids and myself.

Mind Blown! Those wrist things are a genius idea and I will be trying them out. I can't count the number of times I have to remind my kids to focus on a task. It took one child 4 hours to complete a simple task that should've taken them 30 minutes. Thanks for sharing.

Oh gosh this is totally my son. We've discussed with his pediatrician our concerns but he hasn't been evaluated or anything for ADHD, but he definitely has a lot of these tendencies. (Though I'm also finding myself to have a lot of them too and I don't think I did as a child....) Any suggestions of specific fidgets that won't distract him more? I've tried taking people's advice and letting him do something with his hands while I read, but so far it doesn't matter what it is, he pays more attention to that thing and when I ask him what I just read, most of the time he can't tell me. I definitely need to look into some of these books and learn more about it myself. I can get so frustrated because I didn't struggle at all with what he struggles with when I was a child, so I just don't understand it.

Great questions. Can I ask how old he is? I find that for younger kids the best hands-on thing during reading is drawing a picture of something they heard in the story. That way it is a fidget but also applicable to the material. That being said don't be surprised if he only picks one or two things to focus on and doesn't get all the details. That is pretty normal.

@@LifeintheMundane He’s 7. So I get some of it could be age, but either way he definitely fits a lot of the tendencies. I feel like that would distract him more 🙈 but I’ll try it! That would be more effective when reading chapter books right? He’s more attentive with picture books. I might try those stretchy chair bands because I have to remind him to keep all the legs on the floor multiple times a day lol.

Another option if you feel he is old enough is gum. Chewing gum is a way for small amounts of movement but enough to help with focus@@TheThomasTribe13

Yes, you can. I won't lie it won't be easy but it can be so good, especially for kids who have a lot of medical needs. It takes a team though so I would recommend getting some great supportive therapists to help.
