Thanks Eric. Awesome video for anyone thinking of getting into porting heads. It is an art that is worth preserving. Back in the old speed shop days, We had a "head guy" He was really good and very expensive. He would never give any details about how or what he did. You pay and you make power. All the top builders in the area used the same guy. David Visard recently referenced you and was pleased with your work. Good endorsement. Keep up the good work Eric.

Good stuff Eric. Just a hint for anyone who reads this, I do a lot of aluminium work. If you are having trouble with cutting tools biting in, just dull the cutting edge a fraction. Often on new drill bits I will run a diamond lap, or a small stone, lightly over the cutting edge to take the very sharp edge off. If you do this, you will find that it still cuts we, but doesn't dig in aggressively. Regards Greg

Oddly I found once when I needed to remove bulk of material with burr that weld spray, that anti stick spatter spray works like magic to stop burrs clogging. I recommend to test that.

I recently bought a cheap kit of burrs for aluminum on amazon. They fit in a Dremel. I used them to port an LT1 intake from a Gen2 LT1. Much to my surprise, the $15 burr kit did a great job! I did break one burr, but I got by with another one from the same kit (different shape). Originally, I bought them for a different purpose, but they worked great on the short-runner intake.

Thanks Eric. Another great video. I have the Fordom electric as well, but I only use it for fine detail chamber work. It's 1/8 inch and I also have a very small 90° head for it because I used to do two stroke transfer ports. It's great because it has a foot pedal. I use air for every thing else, because...well, I just have it and have for many years. BTW, I love your videos and am learning still, even though I have been grinding on heads for almost 40 years. I hate to think of some of what I destroyed many years ago.......

I know this is a little late and you might not look at comments from older videos. But was watching another video a inside look of an n/a 900hp sbf and he was going in depth on how they ported blue thunder heads and raised the intake runners and how they put a W shape in the floor made me think about some of your work and how you like to test new things. Thought you might like it

Gday mate from Australia. I really appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos to try and give the first time head porters some good tips and advice on getting the best possible performance out of various head types. Along with Dave Vizard, Headflowinc, and other reputable engine builders videos, I have gained a great insight into the importance of correct head porting techniques, what to do and NOT to do. This video provides great guidance on what BITS I need to purchase for my own head porting project. Many thanks. Just on that Eric, I just wanted to confirm setting the throat diameter is between 88-90% of the valve diameter which in my case is a Holden V8 308 intake of 1.94 inch and the same for a 1.49 Exhaust valve. With the bowl area size, is there a % size this needs to be related to the valve size or runner size/area????Any rule of Thumb?? I understand you use porting in the bowl area to help slow and turn the flow into the seat/Throat. And you can use port bias to help slow plus direct the flow into the chamber which creates a venturi effect. With my Holden heads, the intake runners arrive at the combustion chamber at different angles EG one has a longer runner side aimed at the Cylinder side while the next runner aims at an opposite angle, the longer runner side goes to the NON-Cylinder side, which I see might cause some problems when using Port Bias while trying to keep the runners uniform. Holden V8s use an SBC intake profile unlike the SBF layout. Anyway again I really enjoy all the videos you make, your obvious experience, knowledge, skills and they way you explain things that one can understand. Thanks Eric.

Hello friend, I have a small compressor and I can't buy an air die grinder because it would be charging air all the time, im looking for an electric die grinder, would you recommend the Makita G0603, can sand cartridge rolls be used in it? A friend told me that The electric grinder sucks to sand with ,easy way to bend the mandrel. Thanks for another great video Eric! Did I hear you right? You port your throats by hand instead of using a cutter? I am curious because I have not been able to find any information on cutting or grinding valve throats. I would think you would be more consistent using a cutter and a machine vs doing it by hand. Still learning!

My throats are offset which is impossible with a seat and guide machine.

If you spray the burr with wd40 or pb blaster they wont clog up. Same goes for sand paper rolls and cut off wheels. The aluminum cant stick.
