Just bought my first two Huskies this week to begin to learn carving... My first was the Husqvarna 130/16" and I immediately fell in love, two days later I bought a Husqvarna 440 II E/18" and also picked up an Oregon Bar 12" 3/8 pitch quarter tip to put on my 130... Great video, great saws, new sub!!!

Hi Paul, I'm Joe. Thank you for the video, I am trying to learn to chainsaw carve but I was sure where to start. I am Joe's Ozark Wood Carving on Facebook. I cannot afford a website but I have started hand carving in 2005. I appreciate any information that helps me to learn and grow my business. Thanks again now I will follow you.

Well it really depends what saws you already have. If you don’t have any, then the 550xp is what I would start with

Paul, Thanks for the vid. Keep making them. Been carving a bunch of years myself. Seems most Stihl carver's use MS170's with 12" bars. They are only about $180 and the bar, chain, sprocket combos are easy to get. They are 30cc's Ive had 6 of them for years and they are still running strong. To any new carvers on here Id suggest stopping by the Ridgway Chainsaw Carvers Rendevous in April in Pa. The carvers are good about sharing info. If you and Jacob have a few days off, stop down. Ill check your other vids.

Seadoo GTI thats cool. Like I say in the video, a running saw is a good saw. For sure you can buy even cheaper saws and still do the work. Just for us, this is what we use. We get asked all the time, so this answers that question and gives the viewer a guideline on what to look for in CC size of saw vs bar size etc. Like all tools, performance varies. I am quite familiar with Ridgway, Jacob and I have been to many from as far back as 2004. It would be nice to get down their again, but we are quite busy. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the nice Video! The Cannon carving bars do not have the "star" at the tip for guiding the chain, right? Do they anyway resist longer than the original Husqvarna carving bars?
@CarverKingsOfficial
@CarverKingsOfficial 4 жыл бұрын
No sprocket on the cannon carving bars. It's a hardened tip with a special metal. The husky bar is only for battery saws. It is only hardened steel and will not stand up to the gas saw, it will just burn out

@CarverKingsOfficial 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the saws you get. but say a 550xp and 562xp are about 700-900 and bars will be about $125-$200 , $50 Chain and $20 for sprockets. So around $1800 for Pro saws and setup. But you can also buy much cheaper saws to do the same thing. Just these saws can be run all day long. Where as a home user saw that you get at the local hardware stores are not intended to be run all day.

For sure you can, but it’s a real pain to do it. You should at least have two saws one for rough cut and one for fine detail.

Question Paul. You are running 3/8th LoPro chain on the 652XP which is 62cc's 6:44 I THINK I read somewhere that 3/8 LoPro chain is only recommended up to 42cc saws? Am I wrong on that? Do you know what the largest saw the 3/8th lopro is rated for? Do you break chains running them on a 62cc saw especially in oak? Thanks.

Yes we run 3/8 LP on the 652xp. No problem at all. Watch the video of me carving the turtles. I’m blocking with that setup. It’s white Oak and I am ripping hard on it. I’m running the 20” canon supermini with sprocket

I have about 30 saws and half of them are Stihl. There are just as many dead Stihl as Husky. My preference is husky because of the speed/cc. But any working saw is a good saw. This video is really more about the saw cc size to look for to start carving

I suppose as with anything, there will always be someones personal favorite and that is cool, cos' in the end it's our individualism that seperates us from the rest of the sheep... I feel blessed to have a wife that supports my hobbies and is willing to let me have what I feel is the best my money can buy... I can only hope that the guy who might not have a Husky or Stihl budget feels just as blessed if his wife supports his hobbies at whatever budget they may be able to afford...
