Meaning of the colors of the electric cables.

On some occasions, when we have talked about how to change a plug for example, we have told you that the electric cables are of different colors, and unlike what you might think, it is not for an aesthetic issue.
At Bricoelige, we are concerned about the safety of our customers. That is why today we are going to dedicate this post to explain the meaning of the colors of the electric cables, in order to avoid any possible accident.
Buy electrical cables
First of all, it seems important to us that you know the components or parts of any cable.
-Electrical conductor: it is the component that conducts the electric current and can be constituted by one or several wires of a metallic material. Copper wires are the most common, but you can also find them in aluminum.
-Insulation: is the coating of the electrical conductor, which is responsible for preventing the electric current from circulating outside the cable and causing damage to the manipulator of the cable. The insulations also prevent them from coming into contact with some cables and causing a short circuit.
-Filling layer: it is the part that is between the insulation and the electrical conductor. It is a material that directly wraps electrical conductors to maintain the circular appearance of the cable. With this filler layer, the cables have a homogeneous appearance.
-Cover: its function is to protect the insulation of electrical conductors from external agents, such as temperature, sun, rain, etc. It is therefore the outermost part that makes up the cable.
The colors of the electric wires.
Yes, it is true that we can find only two electric wires of the same color, in that case it will mean that you can place them interchangeably. Even so, the most common is to find electric cables of different colors, so let's tell you what each color means. In a single-phase electrical system, formed by a single alternating current or phase, we can find:
Green and yellow wire: ground wire. Formerly it was white or gray, but it turned green and yellow to avoid confusion. This cable is responsible for diverting energy in case of electrical failure, in order to protect people from possible electrocutions.
Blue wire: neutral wire. Formerly it was red, so we recommend you check the cables of this color.
Brown, black or gray cable: phase cable. The choice of colors in this case does answer an aesthetic issue. This cable transmits the electric current. Formerly it was green, so we also recommend you check it.
Cables of other colors: power or load cables. The most common is the red one. They are used in installations where there is a lot of wiring, in this way it will be easier to identify each cable and where it should be placed.
In addition, in a three-phase system we can find other auxiliary phase cables that will serve when for example we want to have more than one switch in the installation.
