I fell in love with BASEMENT 5 as a 15yr old suburban punk kid in Vancouver Canada...it kinda got "lost" in the massive shadow of the original PIL "METAL BOX" on dynamically mixed/mastered vinyl (in the film canister It's a real gem

Fun fact - Legendary Producer Martin Hannett was on record saying that this album was the most difficult project he ever worked on...the ambition of the band members...combined with their exceptional palette and perfectionism with sonic dynamics almost killed Hannett...

This is a great dub! Nearly 40 years on & we're still fucked but at least back in the day youth had some power. How you modern youngsters gonna screw yours is your business but I wouldn't wanna be ya...

@madiggy77 For many months I played it at 45rpm . I had this before the album so I did not know better

On the label is your you tube film is 45rpm on mine is nothing and so i did not what it was so i tried both. Try it it is more reggae like on 33rpm. It is just funny. I lost the album after all these years. The band gave me the album and the In Dub 12". I saw them live in 1980 and they were amazing, the singer was walking/running over the stage with an echochamber in his hands and turning the knobbs on the small echochamber(runs on small endless tapes)

Together with the first Pil album, this seemed the way foreward.Compared to roots dub, "Revolutionaries" ,"Scientist", 'Lee Perry' or even Dennis Bovell ....I'm not too sure about this though....but then...it's all about the memories you have about the soundtrack of your youth...

The only 12" that can be played on 45 rpm and 33 rpm try it if you got de 12"
@steved26677 жыл бұрын
Any 12" can be played @ either 45 or 33 rpm if you have those speeds on your turntable...I can think of one entire series of 7"s released via Drone Records, Germany (100 titles) that sound fine at either speed...all were 33 rpm but since they were drone based, the 45 rpm speed provided a nice alternative effect. I can think of many more titles too, that pass this "multi-speed' test...37 yrs later this Basement 5 track remains timeless. A couple of very good examples of you guess the speed were courtesy of Lewis & Gibert (Wire guys) and their 4AD LP called 3R4, also released in 1980 and Eric Random's 12" called "That's What I Like About Me" (again, 1980!) -both records sound superb at either 33/45 speed-if you can find the vinyl records, check them out!
