Dropping Clarence White's name is a bit misleading: 1) he never played palm-operated benders; 2) he did not use a "g" bender - ever; 3) Clarence's sunburst Tele was a '54, not a '56 - he put a 1956 neck on it "last", but if you look closely at headstock logo picture and fretboard position marker spacing, he used at least 4 necks on the guitar once the bender was installed. The sunburst Tele was simply called a "B bender"; when Dave Evans got permission from Gene,, Clarence and Eddie Tickner(who were partners in the patent) he started installing benders that fit in a routed area of the back using bodies of his own design - and called them "Dave Evans Pull Strings". He initiallybuilt about 100, including Albert Lee's, Al Perkins' and Bernie Leadon's (used on the Eagles "Peaceful Easy Feeling", "Take it Easy" etc). Several years after Clarence was killed Gene (or Eddie) called Dave and asked if he'd stop, as Gene had developed his own "routed in" design. Things were very casual in those days, so Dave stopped and Gene started installing his own "Pull String" (using the same name Dave had used in advertising to keep things consistent)mechanisms in customer's guitars. When the Patent expired (in roughly 2009) Dave called Gene and asked (although he didn't need to ) if it was OK if he started installing "Pull Strings" of his own, more advance design, in customers' guitars as he'd had a lot of inquiries from the TDPRI (theTele discussion board) and the (now-defunct) Fender Discussion Board. Gene said "sure" and Dave is still installing even more advanced "Evans Pull Strings" using stainless steel, Delrin and making a limited number of "Titanium Specials".

Sorry for me, Clarence was the person who brought the string bender the most worldwide exposure. Clarence also first looked for which strings were best suited. My entries are only intended to show the possibilities.

Very interesting, I'll be spending the next two hours Googling most of these, to be honest all except the Glaser (Glazer) I'm not a big fan of Joe, the "homemade" one looks extremely well engineered, an old friend of my brother's made a great looking B bender (John Sheldon) but I have no idea where he is now, or even if he's still with us
