It was a simpler time (where I lived Internet's not a thing so only entertainment I got is from TVs), it starts later than other popular series at the time, captivating hook, great voice acting... Other popular shows are possibly nearing the end so people discussed all the time and I found it quite stressful, SVTFOE with few episodes and watchers is the opposite of that so it was my comfort show. It's also one of the last show I watched before I quit TV and watching series in general... I wouldn't want to watch it now especially hearing people say the end wasn't executed well or whatever. So really I think there's no problem with watching the show only recently and liking it. It's just my personal experience that makes it good at the time
