When you look good, you feel good. And, oh boy, did it feel good sitting behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz CLS 500
A full-size sedan on the inside, but dressed like a stylish coupe on the outside, the CLS 500 is head-turner extraordinaire.
Other than a price that’s beyond anyone with a nine-to-five job, it’s difficult to pick flaws in a car that’s so elegant and technically brilliant.
Under the CLS 500’s captivating curves hides an E-class Mercedes chassis and the E-500’s running gear. Mercedes calls it a coupe and it certainly looks like a coupe, but an interesting twist to the CLS is that it has four doors.
A self-levelling height-adjustable Airmatic air-suspension system is standard and it allows the driver to select a comfort ride or two firmer levels of sporty suspension. Power comes from a gutsy 5.0-litre V8 engine and it’s mated to a seven (yes, seven) speed automatic transmission.
THE LOOKS
The test CLS came with an AMG sport package that includes attractive 18-inch twin-spoke wheels (wider on the rear) with run-flat Pirelli performance tires. This package (an extra $6,985) also adds gear-shift buttons on the steering wheel and an appearance package that includes AMG logos on the chrome-tipped exhaust pipes.
A high belt line and short glass area are key styling features and the doors are a frame-less glass type. When you close a door, the window has an automatic synching feature that tightens the glass against the roof weather seal.
THE INSIDE
Cool styling does have a few drawbacks and rear-seat entry/exit is not quite as easy as an E-Class sedan. The rear door is smaller and the roofline is lower. Then again, it’s certainly easier than any conventional coupe.
Once nestled into the back seat, it’s supremely comfortable with oodles of leg and shoulder room. Occupancy is limited to two rear passengers and height is probably an issue if they’re over six feet. The CLS has a four-zone climate control system, so both rear passengers can individually set a desired temperature, and it has rear seat heaters.
Up front, the dashboard has a nice sweeping design that flows into door panels and features an attractively curved mat-finish burl walnut trim panel (high-gloss Laurel wood is a no-cost option).
THE DRIVE
The CLS is deceptively fast because it’s so smooth, quiet and its V8 produces excellent low- and mid-range torque. Mercedes claim it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about six seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h - if you can find an Autobahn in Canada.
Although quick when you need it to be quick, it’s the smooth delivery and the ride quality that pushed the CLS to the top of my love-to-have list. It devours the open highway with a relaxing ride that has you there wishing your destination was even farther away, yet it’s a surprisingly agile for a big car.
The seven-speed, a super-smooth shifting unit, has two drive settings - sport and comfort. The sixth and seventh gears are true overdrive gears for better fuel economy
The exceptionally good ride is achieved through a state-of-the-art partnership of the Airmatic Dual Control air-suspension and an active damping system called ADS II.
Fast-acting solenoid valves control the amount of compressed air inside pneumatic suspension struts at each wheel, instead of conventional springs and shocks.
The automatic levelling feature lowers the vehicle at high speed for improved stability and yaw sensors front and rear help it react to cornering, braking, and acceleration forces.
The driver can also raise the vehicle when driving in deep snow or on rough roads.
Last but not least, the test CLS also came with the Keyless Go option (an extra $1,895).
With the key in your pocket, touch the door handle and the CLS unlocks, slide into the driver’s seat and touch the shift lever and the engine starts - very slick!

I recently (2021) picked up one of these in the AMG version. The previous owner was spot-on for maintenance, I was leery regarding air and oil - looks like I really lucked out. I LOVE this vehicle. I laugh as I describe my car as a "Russian villain sedan".

Excellent video?? Come on bro, be honest with the guy. I give him credit for the effort & for trying to do a review. That's it. I understand his English isn't the best but if he divided each shot into sections and had notes written down on what he wanted to say and practice it before just getting on camera and winging it; it wud look and sound so much better. I could sit here and go over all the issues witht this video but I don't have that much time. But to lie to this guy that his video was excellent isn't helping him. Bcuz it wasn't. Not even a little bit. Majority of the cringy parts could be fixed with just a decent editor. I'm not being mean, just completely honest. Bcuz that's the only way he's gonna get better is hearing honest feedback. Even the channel name doesn't make sense. Moe cars show? Does he mean Moe's car show? Or Moe's show cars? Or Moe shows cars? I don't know. To the content creator-keep making videos. Just take some more time to prepare. As much time as you need and PLEASE work on editing. These are very easy fixes. Do them and you'll start seeing a lot more interest in your videos. I can guarantee you that.

When you do a review of a car, it's a good idea to know what the hell you're talking about. And using a better word than just "nice" to describe the features & design. And those 'speakers' on the back of the seat are not speakers. Those 'speakers' or vents is the air intake openings for the air conditioned seats. And a face-lift for what?? This 2006 is the first year the car has been released, so how the hell can it have a facelift?!? Then it has " very nice special doors. It has sport doors with sport windows." But here's the best line of all- "this car has only 4 seats." LMFAO!!!!!🤣🤣 ONLY 4 SEATS?? Vs what 8 or 10 seats??? I feel like a 12 year old could've done a better job reviewing this car. Oh and apparently the seats have massagers💆‍♂️ in them. 🚫 EEHHHH!!!!WRONG!! Thats the S-class. Another great line-" when you on the highway & you go more faster the car go down. Because the car is heavy it goes all the way fast, this is one of the safeties." My stomach hurts from laughing. You guys need to learn what EDITING means. But most importantly, "get a damn Thesaurus. You can only use the word nice so many times to describe a car. I love my CLS but after watching this review. It made me want to sell it immediately. Cringiest car review I've ever seen. BY FAR. Holy crap that was bad.

@@mrleghari when it comes to leaving comments on videos, I'm one of the first to encourage someone. But what I also do is call out cringy videos too. I know this guy is trying and I give him credit for that. But come on man, it's not like he was filming a LIVE video. He cudve done as many takes as needed to get it right and to correct simple mistakes in editing. Yes, I understand that's not his native language. It wasn't his accent or the way he said things that I was being critical about. It's the ACTUAL things he was saying that sounded ridiculous. Sport windows, sport doors.? Believe it or not I'm helping him more than the person who says, "oh, that was an awesome video man!" Bcuz it's a lie. It wasn't. And if nobody says anything he won't make any changes & get better. I'm the kinda friend that is going to tell my friends that they have a booger in their nose or a fat white head on their face and to go to the bathroom & fix it b4 they try to talk to that girl at the bar. All these people who are telling him what a great video are the same as the kinda friends that wud let him go talk to that girl with parsley in his teeth or the booger hanging out of his nose. Which just makes him look dumb. I promise you, he will work harder on his videos & make the corrections I mentioned in my comment. And his videos will be better for it.
