The Jurrasic punk documentary is a great watch in relation to the subject 'Cgi'. In small doses, Cgi is great, but practical effects should ALWAYS be used and prioritised alongside Cgi. Terminator 2 is a perfect example of the sweet spot for Cgi effects usage.
@TatankaTaylor8 ай бұрын
A better documentary is the one on Disney+ because in that one you see everything in its proper context. For instance, when Jurassic Park was in early development there barely was any cgi in most movies. So when production for that movie started they were originally going to use stop-motion and practical effects. With no cgi whatsoever. However, two Industrial Light & Magic employees decided to work behind everyone's back to create a digital cgi dinosaur. Those two employees produced a realistic looking T-Rex. And they showed a prototype of it to Kathleen Kennedy. Who was so impressed that she gave them the greenlight to continue with their work. Eventually, their work was so impressive that Spielberg gave the word to replace all the stop-motion dinos with cgi dinosaurs. However, they use all the previous stop-motion animations of the dinos to create the cgi animations.

The animatronic dinosaurs in Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park are my favourite practical effects in film, you really feel like you are watching real dinosaurs (the CGI in both films have also really stood the test of time as well) the shark from jaws is also really impressive when you consider the time period it was made and how much of a bitch it was to get working. Also The Thing, The Fly, The Blob and American Werewolf in London have the best practical effects of any horror movie

I just couldn't figure out what terminator 2 scene you were talking about. I've seen the movie a dozen times and had no clue and thought maybe you had the wrong movie. Can't believe you didn't pick "The Howling " as better werewolf transformation, Robert Picardo's transformation is more gruesome, painful yet you feel and see his pleasure and bone breaking joy knowing what he's about to do. The use of light and shadows makes the wolf skin more realistic than the well illuminated scene, showing the rubbery transformation.

Can you talk about how in the movie Peggy Sue got married. The opening scene where they have the mirror and stuff, and then it zooms out. And then it's actually a stunt double trying to mimic the stuff and then at the end of the movie they're going into the mirror and it's all practical going through it and filming the actual actress, and having the reflection mimic her in a wig. At least I think it was a wig.

"Scanners" was a cheap jack film. If you look at the "exploding head" scene, you see a close up of the exploding head, with bits flying everywhere, then a moment later, a wide shot of the audience panicking, showing the desk on the stage as empty of everyone except Darryl Revock. There is not even a prosthetic person in the chair next to him, despite, apparently, his head exploding into nany pieces. "Scanners" was a cheap jack attempt at a " scary" film that i just couldn't take seriously. Typical Canadian cinema. Cheap and nasty.
