That was a name conjured up partly by that God awful peddler of lies, hate and tits The Sun when we played Chelsea in the FA Cup. Prior to that it was always referred to as the Athletic Ground, Seamer Road or McCain Stadium by the chaps. The Sun was using the term to take the piss out of the little team from the seaside, because like most publications suitable only for backside wiping, they view anything outside the Premiership as just a quaint sideshow, SMFH.

@@Paddyboro Having followed Scarborough away from home for a while in the early 2000s we'd sing "where were you at Seamer Road" to teams with poor away support but big home followings. NOBODY EVER REFERRED TO THE GROUND AS THE THEATRE OF CHIPS.

I really enjoyed this. Thanks. As a Stockport supporter I've been to the the old McCain Stadium in Scarborough a couple of times. I think that it must be further away from the nearest pub than any in the country. I hope, for Scarborough fans, that wherever they settle is more convenient and better supplied by local hostelries.

Nunhead FC, the ground is now part of school playing fields, outline of the the old stand can be made on airborne pics. Dennis Compton, last man to play for England in both cricket and football international teams started his football career there. They were big in the 30s

I used to be a regular visitor to The Firs (number 1!). One of the lads I used to go with was then teenaged Scott Ramsay who went on to make 35 appearances for my main club, Brighton & Hove Albion. The Pilot Field, next door was the first of the 170 football grounds that I have visited.

What happened at Scarborough was a fucking joke. The council banned us from selling the ground which would have kept the club going as well as enabled us to build a new ground

darlingtons ground was not demolished as the remaining kop aka shed end was relocated to the new club at drufc ground where they share scarboros ground same the end stands seamer road and the away stand are at featherstone rovers rlfc to increase seating for superleague regulation and parts of the old main stand went to scarboro rfc

My mum lives around the corner from Pilot Field (Hastings United’s stadium). I feel as though I have seen the abandoned stands when walking by without knowing the significance behind them. On a separate note, the current ground also used to be a Speedway track, which can still be made out in the photos/satellite images.

I actually played for Leyton's Res team during there last few years of existence was a nice compact little ground the pitch was like a carpet how it's been allowed to get in the condition it is now is a real heads gone. Hayes ground before they redeveloped it was horrible. The pitch was bigger than most grounds. Played at Aylesbury utd's ground had a very nice set up, the grass was immaculate. Englands team with the last of golden era players actually trained there. Such a shame its gone to ruins. Lot of old football history in the vid nice 1.

Add the Athletic Ground the oldest ground in south Wales which was the home to Treharris Athletic of the Welsh League. Treharris used to be in the Western League and the Southern League back in the day with Walsall, Chesham, Portsmouth, Kettering, plus Merthyr, Swansea, Cardiff and Aberdare.

There were three grounds formerly in Milton Keynes now gone, wolverton town formerly isthmian league now a recreation facility but still has the countries oldest stand in place ( plenty of photos of that ) Milton Keynes city who played at manor fields in the southern league ( again plenty of photos ) and Milton Keynes borough Hellenic league on who's ground now sits the MK Dons stadium. A little research will give you all you need.

As Redditch United fan I've always dreamed of a decent ground. I've always thought that a town that's bigger than Burnley, should have a better supported team. However the town just doesn't follow the club and that's why we'll never have a good ground. Home crowds of a few hundred is shocking for a town of nearly 90,000.
