@@wendeboyd503you have no understanding of acting if you believe that. He’s proved he has range time and time again. Edward scissor hands is nothing like dean corso. One is unconventional yet deeply human conveyed without dialogue, the other is subtle and nuanced. Joe Pistone nothing like George Jung, two completely different personalities on the opposite side of the law. How about Gilbert Grape, Gene Watson and Hunter S Thompson. Nothing alike. If you want to simp for a lying Hurd of a woman, then that’s your prerogative but doesn’t mean your opinion of Depp as an actor is reality

I will totally agree on Johnny but Tom hanks plays the same character in nearly every role… he just gets overrated because of Forest Gump which boring and stupid. Even when he played a mafia hitman he was still the nice mafia hitman with a heart that you’re supposed to empathize with. He’s always the nice guy, “Everyman” in everything. Never takes a major risk where he’s a complete scumbag the audience hates or is totally unrecognizable in something like Gary Oldman. He has slightly more range than Seth Rogan.

Immensely serious in one role, and madcap funny the next, and heroic in another. Drama, comedy, action, suspense, family films and very grown up films. And he is a chameleon. I think Kathleen Quinlan does not get enough recognition. Much like Meryl Streep she can change her look very easily and has shown up in movies where I did not recognize her until I read the cast listing. There are even times when I have not recognized Uma Thurman! I dearly love it when actors are not just being themselves in yet another movie. I enjoy it so much when they embody a character and do different mannerisms and speech patterns and react differently to stresses and strains and nervous conditions. Mel Gibson is always the same in certain reactionary conditions and Diane Keaton always does the same nervous panicky martians and movements so did Sally Field even though they all played different roles there's always a very individualistic thing that they do that always tells who they are. It's something that is so much a part of them they don't even recognize it to change it to be the character they're portraying. I hope this all makes sense but you know there are lots of actors that can be identified by their little quirks, but I don't care how much they laud Al Pacino for Scarface, he kept losing his accent for the character in reactionary times, and most especially in the phone booth when a bomb goes off in a car had a cornered across the street... I mean I found various places where he sounded like a New York Puerto Rican, rather than a Cubano fresh off the boat/raft, living in Miami. Al Pacino is always Al Pacino in another movie. De Niro pretty much is two but at least he can be funny. I like Sly Stallone he can be tender romantic tough mean and funny. I never have seen the soft porno movie, I don't know if he ever did that role well.

Great list IMO because these brilliant actors DID show range, & I doubt if I could have chosen better. Meryl Streep? Watch 'A Cry in the Dark', 'August Osage County', and any other film she's in and you'll see range all right. As for honorable mentions, many are named in the comments below. (add a few dozen others) btw, also IMO Bale, Day Lewis, Swinton, and Ledger would have made Olivier proud.

You HAVE to make a follow-up video for this one. You missed so many others, as the comments will show, but I think Helena Bonham Carter MUST be in the top 3. From The King's Speech to the Harry Potter series, to Alice in Wonderland, Fight Club, Sweeny Todd, Les Miserables, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Planet of the Apes, and SO many more including voice work, at age 57 she already has 111 credits to her name. She has range no one can dispute. Love you videos and content 👍

I wish Monster's Ball would get a mention when talking about the roles of Heath Ledger. His performance in that film was stunning.

Eva Green, Johnny Depp, Adrian Brody, and John Turturro all belong on this list. Eva displayed her range in a single roll - as Vanessa Ives in Penny Dreadful. Johnny's work speaks for it's self. Adrian Brody has been an incredible and underrated actor his entire career, from The Pianist to The Village, and Turturro has a legacy of films that range from drama to action to horror and comedy. Glad that DiCaprio made the list though. He too is definitely worthy of it.
