Which Star Beast is Is best, What Xenomorph the Zenith, Which Big Chap is the Top Chap, What Alien is A-1? From KENNER to KAIYODO It seems that the whole world wants to take a swing at the top spot. From 1979 to current, and with no sign of slowing down, the Alien franchise has continuously occupied a high position in the collectors market and launched a million "Grail" hunts. In this countdown we will look at some of the best action figure and figurines inspired by the first film in that franchise, from the very small to the massive you will be surprised at who made the list, and may be a bit confused at who didn't. Kotobukiya Alien is perfect. Proportion, the pose and paintjob plus amazing diorama and blinking LED effect. What a incredible figure. They really dropped the most accurate Big Chap Alien and walk away.

I'm so glad you included the Hiya Toys 1/18" version. It's honestly impressive how much detail and articulation they managed to include at that size and price point. I had it on preorder for close to a year over at BBTS after it was announced and can honestly say the wait was worth it. Couldn't put it down for days as I tried all sorts of poses. I really want to buy one of the others.

The Kenner is so accurate to the suit, that it includes the midsection that looks like sub par sculpting….that area actually mimics the lower half of the latex pant section of the suit…it goes up past the the navel to overlap the gap between the top half of the suit….i used to think it was sculpted by another artist to extend the original sculpt…but it was intentional

Great video! That is an amazing collection! I have an 18 inch 1979 Kenner Big Chap. In my opinion the SEGA Alien is one of the most accurate.

Damn informed and informative video! I now know what is the best ALIEN figure from a source that sees the differences better than most. I never got the Koto figure, but you do show it well, and I can find the number 2, so I may just settle for it. Thanks for a great, great video!

The 2015 NECA 22-inch "Big Chap" is my favourite sculpt. I also had the 2008 release (with the more silver paint-job). I skipped the 40th anniversary NECA reissue, as it's the same sculpt as the 2015 - but with a new paint-job and frosted dome. The KENNER '79 doll is 2nd place for likeness and detail. The figure also has the best posture I've ever seen on an Alien figure - just like in the production stills. I tried displaying the 2015 NECA (without a doll stand), but the legs would slowly buckle over time under the weight of the huge banana head and the figure would tip over. The figure is too top-heavy to display without a doll stand. NECA figures look great, but they don't display well. My "Kessler Werewolf" is already starting to slide, as its front legs slowly spread ever wider on their own.

Their difficulty in holding their poses is my only real complaint against NECA at the moment. I have their Alpha Predator and it's a gorgeous thing to look at but the plastic seems to be softer than I'd like. I live in an area that can get very hot in the summer and the figure becomes surprisingly bendable during those times. NECA should follow McFarlane's example and and issue simple stands with each of their figures.

I'm so happy to own a Kotobukiya one. I can easily imagine myself buying 1/6 if they'll ever release one. Sega surprised me with the prize Alien - it looks insane if only you could find it for a friendly price. At least Medicom still can be found.

Im far to young to have any nostalgia for the Kenner alien, though I appreciate its spot in history and do think it just looks neat. But for me, with the price those tend to go for and some of the outdated sculpt/paint work, I find that I prefer the Tsukuda Hobby Vinyl Kit figure a little better. Its clearly derivative of the Kenner figure, but it has a better sculpt, more paint, and that awesome looking tinted yellow dome. But most important for me, I found mine at a fraction of the price of the Kenner figure. Granted, $100 isnt CHEAP, but at least its not $400 Another thing going for them is that they also have an Aliens and Alien Resurrection figure that are around the same scale and display very nicely together, and there is additionally a Queen, Newborn, and Dog alien, as well as a life sized chestburster and facehugger. I have the Alien, Aliens, and Alien 4 figures, as well as the Queen, and behind Furyu they are probably my favorite line of Alien figures to collect.

A good price would be between $100 and $175, and that is definitely doable. Keep checking ebay, check local collectibles stores, and hit up Yahoo Auctions japan (I have a video on the proxy bidding process). Most people are going to be trying to get $300 plus, but those don't often sell.

Thank you very much for this video, I am quite fanatic of Alien, I don't have as many as you, since I collect MANY other things and space is a problem, I have the Big Chap of Hot Toys in 1/6 scale with which I am satisfied, and I was missing one in 1/12 scale, I just bought the Mezco, I have not received it yet, I know you made a video about it, but I don't know if it was after making this, so I do not know in which number of the list you would put it. and lastly, before deciding for the Mezco I was thinking about buying the Mafex, but there are not many quality reviews, and the few that there are, the figure has many quality problems, I would love you to make a specific review of the Mafex. I just recently ordered the Hiya warrior and the Figma big chap. In terms of budget figures to collect, those aren't bad. A shame the KAIYODO figure is so old and difficult to find, Would have gotten that one in a heart beat. Not to mention pricey as well.

I have both the translucent and regular pre-ordered, mezco tends to put a lot of fine detail into their products so I'm excited to see how the final figure looks. From the product stills it looks a lot like Medi Com's offerings (which is good). If you are on the fence about pre-ordering I wouldn't hesitate, these are probably going to transfer quickly to the secondary market, so expect to pay double in a year or two.

@@strangeform the proportions to me seem more like that of the stunt actor (and their predator looks more like they used reference to the classic predator from the movie “predators” vs the jungle Hunter suit ….including more flat bio helmet & shorter proportions overall

I now have the MEZCO in hand. At first glance, it is actually better than the production stills. It's sort of like if you melded the MAFEX and the MEDICOM real action heroes figures together. My review of it will be up soon.

I have a feeling the white one is t going to be translucent. It’s just giving off that affect in photos. I don’t think the silicone can produce that without showing the inner metal skeleton

That is a complicated one. A week ago, I would have said it was number 2... but mine has developed a fatal flaw. Fortunately, Big Bad toy store has sent me a replacement, so I will be doing a video on this problem (and why it occurred) later this week. My hope is that the issue is not widespread, but if it is, that would definitely affect where this chap lands on my list.

Just started the vid but if the hot toys big chap is on this list it’s a total bust. That thing is an abomination to the big chap design. Let’s see how this goes I’m curious

The NECA Big Chap figure's mouth is in line with the film accurately but in different ways the creature was seen on screen. When the mouth is open, NECA made the gap like when the Alien was going to attack Ripley at the end of the film. The different designs of the mouth of the Alien on all the different versions of Big Chap are clear choices of the different screen presence of the creature as well in the movie. The only part that they mess up always is the girth of the inner mouth of the Alien, because they always make them looking very thin, when in the first film the inner mouth is quite full/thic within the mouth and as it is shown in many stills as well as when the Alien kills Brett or Parker and almost attacks Ripley.

I guess that's the difficulty when trying to recreate something that in reality had very little screen time and you have to get a hold of behind the scenes photos and references to have any idea how the thing actually looked like.

@@EternalRoman Looking at this list, I think these companies chased certain looks as part of their design process which can be good or bad depending on the collector. NECA, for example, seems to have designed theirs as if it were truly a lanky, long limbed creature with a hard exoskeleton. Whereas the higher end companies seemed to go for ultimate "screen accuracy" which does actually look like a very tall man in a costume, down to the flexible look of the limbs and how there's a visible break between the shins and feet.

@@enrique6335 Yeah, thing is though when a movie is made, usually if a Toy company is involved to make merch, they usually get the production plans for the designs ahead of time though. This is usually part of the contract, like when Kenner got the designs for the Big Chap back in '79. Their released figure, controversy aside at the time, was almost a screen accurate depiction of the Alien in the film. And there was no real selection of screen look aside of its own design for the film itself. But I agree, with decades of these films already, the designs are selected based on their impacting image on screen and maybe it is what does help because it allows to have the customer connect with the merch itself, by having the memory serve more as a drive rather than just the simple design itself. Super 7 has been doing this with their Masters of the Universe Origins lines, with the classic toy looks and the cartoon looks respectively, and it works.
