These days, it’s easy to feel like the world is a depressing place where nothing good ever happens. Bombs explode, wars trundle on, politics gets more polarized, and the future looks as black as can be. No wonder we wake up each morning reaching for the Xanax.

So the meaning of the logo has basically changed from "This is an endangered animal" to "This is an endangered animal that we saved from extinction through our efforts". That's kind of beautiful, don't you think?

Yeah and out of all the species out there it's one of the most unlikely due to the issues with breeding them. Guess sometimes if your throw enough money at something it can sometimes be fixed. Tbh it looked like it was almost a waste of time and money and that it would be better spent on saving some keystone species.

Venteo I was thinking this the way Simon worded it made it sound like they were silly for having a non endangered animal in there logo or maybe not silly but like it was almost false advertisement when really it would remain the perfect symbol as an animal they managed to conserve 🤣🤣

Neat fact about the wolf rebound... on the edges of their expanding ranges, the few lone wolves on the fringes of packs will force their way in to coyote communities and interbreed. The further east you get in North America, the better the chances that what you think is a coyote is actually a larger hybrid creature called a coywolf.This new species is both displacing coyotes as though they were an invasive species, and slowing the spread of pure wolves by acting like an invasive competitor. It's bad enough that purebred coyotes, usually regarded as a pest, may be on their way to being endangered or even extinct.
@davidbarnett342
@davidbarnett342 6 жыл бұрын
Yes but coywolves have integrated well in the coyote community and urban environments. The pure wolf has had little to no competition from them actually. Alot of the game wolves hunt, coywolves have no intrest in. Coyotes and wolves have made one of tge few hybrid species that can reproduce with another hybrid makong a new species entirely! Its amazing. Coyotes will probably end up fully merging with the coywolf population as coywolves are bigger, and have higher litter counts. Itll be the canine equivalent to Neanderthals slowly integrating into modern humans.
@johnladuke6475
@johnladuke6475 6 жыл бұрын
"...coywolves have integrated well in the coyote community and urban environments..." I'm seeing this coywolf in a collared shirt with a tie, sitting in a car stuck in traffic on the freeway, listening to the morning show and thinking how he hates his job and just wants to retire to the countryside.
@leoncoben6983

The scary and intriguing part of Coywolves though is that they carry the curious and fearless nature of the coyotes they have for us but have the power of wolves within them. That could be a problem for us. Regardless I do like Coywolves, I find them fascinating and saddening that their existence is potentially disruptive for the ecosystem.

Bald eagles have to be close to being removed from the Endangered Species list. There was said to be only 500 of them in the world 40 years ago, but today there are said to be over 70,000 in the lower 48 states, 2,500 of which are said to be in Dubuque, Iowa alone. You would never have believed bald eagles were endangered if you lived in Dubuque, Iowa where I lived in the 1990's.

The problem now is that "industrial agriculture" (food corporations) want to start using DDT again to boost their crop yields as GM crops, combined with their specifically engineered pesticides, are no longer working as well. Pests have evolved to be resistant to them due to their over use.

Then they wouldn't have been put on the almost instinct list in the first place... Endangered animal lists don't care about borders, only species.
@chiprbob
@chiprbob 5 жыл бұрын
They also disappeared in parts of Canada (southern Ontario, southern Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia). They have existed in Alaska for centuries. However, this was about the northamerican gray wolf being on the endangered list in the US not Canada. While there are international endangered species lists, individual countries have their own lists of endangered species for species that are endangered within that country. Canada has it's own list of endangered species within it's borders. If this is an example of the love-hate feelings of Canadians towards Americans, maybe you need to grow up.

The tale of the Erie Water Snake reminds me of an effort by India to create a reserve for a crocodile that was being hunted to extinction. Surprisingly quickly, they were up to their asses in baby crocodiles. Crocodiles lay large clutches of eggs and parents and young were allowed to survive. Last I heard, they were doing sustainable harvesting. Oh, and the Erie Water Snake does look pretty scary even if its harmless.

You're not kidding about Lake Eerie being home to "wasteful Americans." MANY of the very top water polluters in the U.S. are local governments on the Great Lakes dumping wholly or partially treated sewage into the lakes. A really breathtaking atrocity is the story of why Milwaukee, WI is still on that list. Hint: imaginary lines on schematics of pipes have a lot to do with it.

Aluetian Canada Goose was also on the endangered species list, as their breeding islands had been planted with foxes by the Russians years ago. As the fur industry collapsed, the foxes were no longer harvested, thus decimating the goose population. Foxes were killed off, and the Aluetian Islands went back to being predator free (as why the geese nested there in the first place.)

Panda's are probably going to end up being a waste of time. They are bears and are meant to be omnivores. 99% of their diet is a grass that they have to eat 26 to 84 pounds (10 to 15 Kilograms) of. They don't even have the proper teeth for it, they have bear teeth.

Yes very true they are like a form of currency, but more of a loan. China owns every panda technically that they have sent to other countries, and they can demand the cubs back. As well the Chinese government, it cost 1 million dollars to pay for one Panda, and when the cub is born there is a cub tax. A video done by Vox, about Panda Diplomacy explains it much better than I can. And I do think Panda's are cute I haven't met anyone to deny that, why do think they are the poster child for endangered species.

Hate to break it to you, the Giant Panda is still "in danger" of extinction. You see, when animals are classified as 'Vulnerable', it means their numbers can still decline.

Too bad Gray Wolves aren't staying in the forrests. They love eating cattle as much or more than people do. As they aren't on the endangered list, farmers want to shoot them as pests.

Staggered fencing, gravel and tall fencing can save grazing animals alot of hassel. Wolves love the hunt, but dont reall put much effort to get pass a fence. If its just a stick with what used to be barb wire on it then problem found. Here in nebraska people had to put up actual fencing to stop the wolves from just walking into the field. Alot of grazing animals will stay togeth close to the food and thus people have left the fences to break down over time. Unless you make a visable barrier the wolf has no idea those are your animals. Doesnt take much to deter a wolf.

It's not sustainable in Canada we have room thousands of square miles of forests and mountains and still the large predators grizzlies and cougars wolves require such large hunting areas that we are starting to impact their populations there has to be less of us there are to many people wolves were never endangered in Canada in fact the Yellowstone wolves are from Alberta

Those wolves once owned all of the u.s pretty much so beig pushed back to just canda is them being endangered. While your populations were as negatively impacted the species as whole suffered severe blows by humans.

You'd think they really did want to say 'screw it, we're out!' given the extremely particular lifestyle.... And it's not like they're in Austrailia and got screwed by a drying climate (the Koala).... They're in a bloody rainforest.
