i don't mind if the other band members find new success, but for me, Chester is Linkin Park as much as Freddie Mercury is the King of Queen. There is simply no replacing them. As for the idea of replacing the lead singer of a band, i think it's important to recognize that the lead singer carries a large part of the band's initial success, because you can't identify with a drum beat or a guitar-riff, you can only identify with the singer performing the song, so losing the lead singer causes a major change in band-identity. Brian May has stated that Queen was never the same after Freddie's death, which explains why Queen hasn't released any new music since Freddie's last contribution for their 1995 album.

@tamibrandt3 жыл бұрын
I'm in the camp of No Layne/No Chains, because no matter which singer you put up there to sing those songs, it'll only be a cover. Layne Staley had a unique voice you cannot replicate or replace. A lot of those songs were great because Layne pretty much wrung his entire soul out singing them, others were personal to Layne and to have someone else sing those, the songs lose their meaning because the new guy didn't go through the ordeals those songs are inspired by. William singing THEM BONES on the 2006 reunion tsunami gig.... William DOES NOT have the power in his voice that Layne had especially for that song. Maynard James Keenan could get close to Layne's vocal range for that song (and many others). And Maynard would have the reverence for Layne's memory, he was friends with Layne, he KNEW Layne, had a history with Layne, and saw what Layne went through from Lollapalooza 93 until Layne became a recluse. Besides, Maynard already had 3 bands going on, why not join a fourth band? I ran into Jerry doing GOT ME WRONG with STP... that felt almost sacrilegious and off-key without Layne just watching it. Now, Jerry has William singing Layne's vocals especially on something like LOVE HATE LOVE which Layne wrote about his tumultuous relationship with his former fiancee, Demri. No. Just NO. Some of the newer AIC fans may like William. And he's probably a great guy in real life but -- it's hard to describe what Layne was...one thing is he was so much more than his addiction. Layne and Jerry were two of the strongest personalities in AIC, the heart (Jerry) and soul (Layne). Layne had done so much for Jerry, giving him a place to live, money, clothes, food, guitars and gear, a band. Layne gave Jerry a life that could NOT fail unless Jerry let it happen. But getting a front-row seat to watch what had happened to Layne over the years, Jerry had to watch his best friend deteriorate in a span of 12 years (1990-2002), and Jerry couldn't do anything about it. Jerry had talked himself blue in the face but Layne didn't want help. Alice In Chains was a band, but they were also a family. They had internal issues just like any family. Whenever Jerry wanted Alice In Chains to work on something, he ALWAYS wanted Layne to sing. He never thought of replacing Layne while Layne was still alive. And to pour salt in the wound, MTV (and the music industry) has more or less blackballed Layne (and yet, they laud over Kurt Cobain every April 5th, because Kurt was the "face of grunge", meanwhile Layne gets a "by the way"). The Grammys went so far as to invite Jerry, Mike, and Sean to the Grammy show in 2003 and then refused to put Layne's picture up in the memorial of the musicians who died in 2002. (Or they "forgot" to) which pissed Jerry, Mike, and Sean off and they walked out on the show. When Layne died, it was like losing a loved one, a family member, you don't think of the fights you had with the person who died. You defend their memory. There is a reason Jerry wrote NO EXCUSES about Layne and the line "You, my friend, I will defend / And if we change, well, I'll love you anyway." "My grandmother and mother were such huge losses, but I got Layne, the guys, and I got this.” - Jerry Cantrell, Kerrang! (December 1, 2018)

The sad part is that for Staley, it was a slow suicide and he was perfectly conscious of it. That's what "Dirt"'s lyrics says… :(

Lot of bands you forgot. Little Feat comes to mind. They were an up and coming band when their lead singer Lowell George passed away.

I think Queen should be higher, but AC/DC definitely deserves its top spot. And I never was a great fan of JD Fortune, but Rock Star:INXS brought me to Storm Large.

Agree with the #1. I remember being crushed when Bon died. I never thought they would go on and have a massive hit with BIB, a great album but for me it will always be Bon Scott. ❤️

Well, another example could be Quiet Riot, although they haven't risen in popularity since Kevin DuBrow's death.

Why are so many people insulting Adam Lambert for being with Queen? Y'all should realise that people like me never got the chance to see the original line-up, as Freddie died in late 1991. I was born years later. I am a fan of Adam individually aswell, so I appreciate the two coming together. 99% of the Queen fans are only insulting Adam and it's sad, but it shows how awful the fans are :(
@theaterpup34663 жыл бұрын
I saw Queen + Adam twice last year. The overwhelming majority of the fandom loves Adam. The Internet is filled with miserable SOBs, they don't matter.

@@theaterpup3466 I have seen QAL twice and Adam solo once. The internet for sure is filled with miserable SOBs. The fans of Queen who are anti-Adam, are those who are stuck in the past

Bon Scott is actually the second ACDC singer. He replaced the original singer of 1 year so Bryan Johnson is the third singer

and now... he, too, has been fired. :-( He can't hear, anymore. -- I SAID HE CAN'T HEAR ANYMORE. Didn't they bring on Axl Rose, like pretty recently, pre-covid?

Freddie Mercury is probably the only frontman that will never be topped or replaced. Adam Lambert still confuses me as to why hes with Queen. He can sing but it seems random.
@TheaterPup3 жыл бұрын
Not random at all, Adam Lambert comes from a musical background, which Freddie would appreciate. And he has amazing chemistry with the band. Plus Freddie arguably helped pave the way for artists like Adam to be themselves on stage.

Linkin park should still make music without Chester as I have great memories of seeing the band in concert before chester’s death. Listening to their old music is great but it’s not the same without him
@skskskpost88523 жыл бұрын
They better went RATM-Audioslave direction though IMO. Im not a big fan of Mike singing and Replacing Chester is almost impossible to do. They could put LP and all of its legacy to rest and form sort kind of supergroup with a renowned Vocalist (I do really hope that they will merge with the remains of Paramore. Hayley could suit any genre) with musical style of Deftones experimental metal stuff (Hayley definetly capable of doing so but without scream)
