Thanks for keeping the top 10 up to date. The technology is very impressive. My most successful lure to date has been a yo zuri crystal minnow, however for distance casting (if distance really matters) it goes to the SG Pencil. That said I've recently used the Razor Claw minnow patterns 28g, and they cast to the horizon with impressive accuracy. Now they must sink like a brick and can get snagged, which is why I use inline singles with an alternating retrieve. Cost? Less than £2. So why not have a super cheap top 10? Of course I could do it but if I did it would be the worst thing on KZbin. 👏⚽

Paul I really like your comments here. Lots to consider 1. The pencil was one to consider too but if I lived in the south west. 2. I’ve started the cheaply top 10. 3. Will check out the razor claw 4. Thanks

High Matt, thanks for the reply 👍 It's not a confidence thing, full of that, guess the fish just weren't around when I was fishing. I think it was probably more a question of will the lures still work under certain conditions ? ie, a more visual lure in clear water working well, still having just as good a result in merky water and visa versa. Have you noticed or made any notes on any particular points in the tide, when results might be best ? Low-up or high-down. No matter what, will still keep plugging away ( no pun intended) As partly down to you I now have a new rod and several new lures to try. Although a seasoned angler, I am giving the Favourite cobalt blue a whirl, and yes leader knot is a bit techy on/ in the top guids. Needs gentle coxing. All the best. Les.

Hello. Your vids are really good. I know that rods have different strengths and actions but, from your experience, what sort of rod and rod length is adequately suited to cast these light lures?
@SaltwaterAngler9 ай бұрын
There’s a bit more too it but for me 10-30g rod and 9ft will serve you well. Personally the marks I fish may be tight against cliffs so casting all day I like 8ft ish rod even 7. But 9ft can cope with different marks.

Thank you, I've been wanting to ask for a couple of years now. I fished off the pier in Hastings last year after watching one of your vids. I managed to catch a mackerel using a basic float rig with sand eel. I'm hoping to try lures east of the rock-a-nore car park in a few weeks as it looks like a good spot. Keep making the vids, when I cant go fishing, I watch yopur vids instead🙂

Loverly selection of lures. I always dread losing them, and I lost my zonk a couple of weeks ago! (Replaced already) I did contemplate stripping off and going in, but was early and bloody cold. Did manage a 4lb 8oz beauty though, on a Dr Fish sub surface, I like them a lot, especially the price. 6 lures for £18. Also recently using storm Shad weedless, I love them , cast well, great action and managed several follow ins before latching a 4lb fish right under my feet! Water was dirty, and the Shad was dark brown! Really like the vids and tips Matt. Thanks 👍

High Matt, have just watched with great interest your choice for a top ten, some very impressive lures there indeed. Probably a bit of a difficult task to just pick out 10, out of the hundreds that are available ? and of course i think, and hope, that I would be correct in thinking that your lure/ lures also match your location/ venue ?? I am not quite sure where you might fish for the majority of time but, you seem to be mainly in fairly clean good visibility waters ? Unfortunately, my main area is around kent, places like Whitstable, Herne bay and the like where conditions can be very murky mucky & weedy so not the best of conditions at times. But on calmer days it can be that little bit clearer. Do you have any ideas or suggestions on what or might work well under such conditions ?? I do have a fairly good selection of artificials to choose from, sometimes I think that in itself is a problem, to much choice and not getting it right. Apart from finding different venues, any ideas/ suggestions for such conditions. Cheers, all the best, Les.
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee , yes I must admit I’m a bit of a clear water or nothing lure angler ! I know fish can be caught in those Kent conditions I wonder if it’s a confidence thing fish the lures in the same way but expect more missed bites in those cloudy conditions. In other words I see a lot of evidence that bass will still take a lure in your conditions

I’ve got some underwater footage I’ll share shortly . You could well be right because it’s tail heavy you can get it looking reasonable by digging in to the rod tip as you say. So yes no wrong or right way as it all depends on conditions for me. Better results have come by being minimal for me ?

One of the biggest advantages of using single hooks on lures is the bass are easy to unhook and you get more fishing time and lastly it does less damage to the bass mouth. ( I spend a lot time in summer standing in the sea up to my waste and found unhooking a bass on 3 hooks time consuming losing valuable fishing time when the bass were going nuts, but as soon as I changed to a single hook It was far quicker to unhook and I caught more bass.)

Great selection but slightly surprised no Savage Gear Sandeel. I know that so much of this is all about personal confidence, and whilst I love topwater hard plastics I have yet to catch a bass on a diving hard plastic. Weird, eh?
@SaltwaterAngler3 жыл бұрын
Yea I think that it would be I. If I fished more in the south west , we don’t have too many sandeels here in comparison I guess. Interesting about diver for you too ?

Last 4 seasons my top 2 and all I really take/need is the feed shallow 128 mullet and the patchinko 125 500g.. Roll on 4 am tomorrow morning..🤙🏼edit lol Also if you want your lures to look brand-new for a few seasons the best thing you can buy is a product called bonda seal clear and dip them..trust me try it…

Top tip thanks
@thomaslewisburridge58633 жыл бұрын
little bit of the bonda seal into a plastic Chinese container dip them then hang to dry for 6 hours..Leaves you with a nice smooth and glossy finish n Best of all your lures will look brand-new 2 years later😉

Very interesting video thanks Matt. I've only got 1 of the lures you mentioned (SG Seeker) and need to treat myself to a lighter (cheap!) lure rod if I was going to use some of the others you mentioned. I don't target Bass anyway, as a lot of the decent Bass marks locally I can't access due to health issues. Roll on 20K subscribers and that lure rod competition! Stay safe & well. 👍👍

Thinking of getting into lure fishing I see some of these lures are pretty expensive 36 pounds ect 😮
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
Yep! Two ways of thinking about it YES you are getting an effective lure that might last longer than £36 worth of bait BUT bass will take anything at times so you could always consider a cheaper alternative. Lists of lures available on Amazon eBay and online sellers that look very similar - will be covering this in the channel

What top 4 would u recommend, something for surf fishing beaches , as I’m going to start there while I’m bait fishing?? Cheers
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
Rapala j13 to learn the ropes Floating lure for those calm days on the beach between the waves patchinko cast a mile. Shimano assassin in natural colours and then a metal like a savage gear seeker. Maybe try a rapture assassin to save a bit

Why so small? You can move up to the 170 size and get 3x the casting distance. Can always put smaller hooks on.

Can't believe there's no wopper plopper in the top 10. Made by kingdom lures. Outstanding surface lure, catches the bigger bass.

You can re melt plastisol soft plastics with a lighter, just bend the cut open and brush with the flame until it goes glossy and the edges start to roll over, then just mash it together
