If you ever do a part 2 of this list please add in the Battle of Gaugamela. That battle helped Alexander the Great end the Persian Empire and ushered in a brand new age.

Yes, it was decisive, but Alexander would fight the Persians one more time at the Persian Gates before the vast majority of the Persian Empire surrendered, and the Persian Empire wasn't technically brought down until Alexander burned down Persepolis.

One of the biggest battles in Canadian history is when the British defeated the French at the Plains of Abraham, which ended the North American front of the Seven Years War (aka the French and Indian War). It secured British control over the colonies that would go on to become Canada, but the cost of the war for Britain was one of the dominoes that led to the American Revolution

Decent Choices! I realize Naval Battles don't generally end wars. But there are some significant sea battles that certainly helped to shape the final outcomes of some wars. Oh, yes: one important land battle, Stalingrad. While it did not immediately end WWII, it Certainly was the first Major Nail in The Third Reich's coffin.
@charlessalzman4377
@charlessalzman4377 Жыл бұрын
I thought Stalingrad would be on here too. They included the battle that turned the tides in WWI. So they weren't strictly listing final battles. Stalingrad did turn the tides. I guess WWII, with its multiple theaters across the world, is a harder to pin down.

If there was to be a part 2, the Battle of Berlin would be somewhere on the list for sure. Although it only led to the end of the European theatre of WW2, it nonetheless showed both the brutality of the fighting in the Eastern European Front of the war (the fighting was street by street, house by house, room by room) and proved the effectiveness of rocket propelled shaped charge weapons to take out tanks (the German built Panzerfaust), which was later developed into RPG's. It also, for Europe at least, set the stage for decades of tense stability in the Cold War period, as the threat of nuclear weapons left both superpowers staring each other down
@emilravn3291

not really. battle of berlin wasnt THE battle that ended it. Germany was already squished in from all ends.
@SiVlog1989
@SiVlog1989 7 ай бұрын
@emilravn3291 was it though? Although not in Germany itself, there were German forces in occupation of places like Norway and the Channel Islands who were ready for a landing, but weren't doing any actual fighting. It would, and ultimately did, have relied on the ones running Nazi Germany at the very end to order them to not fight when the nation surrendered
@emilravn3291
@emilravn3291 7 ай бұрын
@@SiVlog1989 but berlin wasnt "the final blow" everyone knew the surrender would happen. the forces outside of germany didnt get supplies. they could just as well have used rocks to secure the occupied land and would had a larger chance. Waterloo fx was huge cause if Napoleon had won then he could have used that as a levage to keep his power

In the Battle of Hastings, you mention how the Anglo-Saxons had militia as their infantry. That is simply untrue. There was also the Housecarl royalguard. They were the reason the battle went on for so long and almost made it end in a stalemate.

One battle that should have been added as an honorable mention: The Fall of Berlin - World War II. While not exactly bringing the entire war to the closure, the Battle of Berlin resulted in the end of the war in the European Theatre. Operation Barbarossa, launched in 1941, had come full circle as the Soviet laid siege and assaulted the German capital. A couple days after the Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun committed suicide, the Soviets took control of the Reichstag, planting the flag on the roof as symbol of their victory. Soon afterwards, the remaining German leaders surrendered; Japan would continue fighting in the Pacific theatre for a few more months despite losing its remaining major ally.

Battle of Constantinople is one of the saddest and biggest in history. Byzantine Empire was glorious and stood over 10000 years. Both war and inner fighting weakened it. They lost teritory and land and end was inevitable. Battle of Tenochtitlan is disgusting. Trickery,betrayal,sneaky. And Spanish released the virius to finish Aztecs. It was genocide. Battle of Amiens was one of the most glorious in history It marked ending to the most brutal war in history at the time Battle of Zama was brilliantly fought. Romans used great tactics against Hannibal and Carthaginians. They constantly attacked him,then withdrew,used guerilla attacks. They forced to macth forward to exhaust his forces and they after decisive atatck to return back. To retreat. Hannibal made great mistakes too. He continued the battle. Siege of Baghdad is also tragic. Battle of Appomattox Court is also great. Well fought. Napoleon really was one of the greatest military commanders and politicians in history. He misjudged the situation at Waterloo. And in other cities. That was decisive. I love history😊Great video

Funny how the Brits have transformed Waterloo in the most important victory over Napoleon. In reality Napoleon in 1815 had little chance to recover any of the lost empire, a victory at Waterloo would have hardly changed that. The real battle that ended Napoleon’s empire, though not Napoleon’s rule, was the now forgotten Battle of Lipsia or Leipzig, also known as the Battle of Nations, fought in 1813, which was the largest battle ever fought in Europe before WWI. But the Brits weren’t present there, so better to emphasize Waterloo. Also, Stalingrad, the battle that started Nazi Germany’s end, was probably worth a mention, wasn’t it?
