People don't have much idea about that! India's most visited state is Tamil Nadu and Kerala is only 7 or 8th position. But Tamilian doesn't understand something about their state - TN tourism department is the least working - the lazy in India! Similar or better places than Kerala you could find all coastal and North east but you won't find hard working CM to general public for the common cause - despite the party LDF, UDF or BJP. Govt. is only a coordinator but industry run the show - all members of the industry to any general public person working as one team for the success of the tourism. Next 3-5 years new tourism area will be North Kerala - watch and learn the product development.

You go to karnataka coast equally better places than kerala included backwaters, hills, coast but they are not famous for tourism.
