Good point about the longevity of negatives and trannies. I have both that are 40 years old, and they’re still usable. 👍

Thinking of buying a lomomatic 110 to check around a little bit this world of analogue photography. Your video is very instructive in the pros and cons. I am set, I'll put my hands in that nice camera soon 😅😊

I haven't shot 110 in years, but I remember it like it was yesterday. The Lomomatic looks like an exciting camera. I'm glad you found some value in my video! Thanks for sharing, and take care.

You're very kind, my friend. We may be about 105 years old when I reach 100k. However, if I do hit that number, I'll take a trip to Australia, and we will capture some images together.

Restarted using film again 2 years back, yes it comes at a cost but the joy of using it and developing the roll outweighs the cost, can only develope the film at home nowadays as sadly have no room in our tiny house to set up a full darkroom to print so scanning and printing on my printer is my only option to keep the cost down
@ScottymanPhoto18 күн бұрын
I totally agree! I, too, share your tiny home dilemma, at least from the perspective of landscape photography. Indeed, I need an entire house dedicated to my work. Space is a rare commodity between my KZbin studio, printing, and all my gear. Perhaps one day, I'll have a spare bedroom devoted to film photography. I would love to have a darkroom with an enlarger. Thank you for visiting and sharing your thoughts. Take care!

thanks for the video! I put down my digital camera a few years ago and never looked back! I always preferred film and a manual camera. that's fun for me, still develop my negs. but can't enlarge anymore, still have a point and shoot for digital.

Tom, it's always a pleasure to hear stories like yours. Film is a creative process that is both engaging and satisfying! I can't wait to get back out there myself. Take care, my friend! about the cost, my locals was the other way around. a 35mm roll cost ranging from 180k VND to 350k VND (7-14 USD a roll), and film development cost ~2 USD (i didn't try other labs yet), and they sent me JPEGs file, 2-4MB each. and they'll keep the negative for a month for you to come pick it up yourself.

It is probably not something the beginners find actual for them, but nobody says you can't print your pictures in darkroom, if you wish to do so. Scanning and digital editing is not the only possibility, although you get such an impression when listening to many of the young folks. Yes. photofinishing uses mostly scanning, and most of commercial RA-4 printing is from digital files. But still, it is possible, and not even very hard. Printing color in darkroom has had an aura of being something almost impossible even in the heydays of film. Seasoned black and white darkroom enthusiasts "knew" in the 1980's, that it was almost impossible. They had never tried. As a long time darkroom printer, who has done more color - both EP2, and later RA4, and even quite a lot of Cibachrome in the old days, I find it always disturbing, when somebody says "then you have to scan", "when you scan". It is the most common option for using color film nowadays, but not the only one. I don't want to change my darkroom to a computer.
@ScottymanPhoto15 күн бұрын
That's an excellent point! You're right; scanning is not the only option. In fact, Intrepid Camera is currently manufacturing compact enlargers; although they're not the most elaborate, they get the job done. When digital photography first debuted, I thought of it as pixilated and inferior to film; perhaps then, but digital certainly holds its own today. However, if I had the available space, I would have a dark room with an enlarger. On that note, I'm right at the age between film and digital. Many people then developed proclivities for computers, while others were not interested. Having had the opportunity to cross those boundaries, I can appreciate both processes. Nevertheless, many people only know one way: the digital way. Who knows, what seems like a lost art may return in full force one day. Indeed, it's the process I enjoy most. Fantastic comments! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

@@ScottymanPhoto As long as I know, Intrepid has also a color system, which has nothing to do with the numbers we, who have worked decades with traditional color heads are used to There is quite a lot of second hand enlargers in the market, and quite a lot of them are also with color heads. Much better option than the Intrepid in my opinion. The one I use the most, is a Meopta from the 1970's, and those enlargers can-t be broken. Although Eastern Block (Czechoslovak) made, these are made of solid metal. Of course, you will need a better quality lens than those enlargers were often sold with, but a Rodagon won't break your wallet. Digital is not bad, but what I don't like, is too aggressive post production. In motion picture, even if the movie is shot on film, it is scanned very flat, and coloring is completely done by computers. You won-t see the esthetics of the 1980's Eastmancolor printed on a film anymore, but everything is so technically perfect it looks artificial. The problem of overediting, i.e. the "Portra look" the kids want, but you won't get it from Portra 400 if printing in darkroom, is a good example of this. It is made by labs in post for clients wanting that kind of look. And of course, the main reason for printing color for me is that it is fun.

@ Just the thought of setting up a darkroom is very exciting. I’m glad there are still people practicing this art. Perhaps in the future I can make the dream a reality. I really appreciate the comments and sharing your vast knowledge.
