My 2012 top: 10. The Palaces of Carrara 9. Love Letter 8. Snowdonia 7. Keyflower 6. Android: Netrunner 5. Seasons 4. Targi - last 2012 game still in my top 100 3. Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar - I'm a bit burned out on it, but it's still a great game 2. Suburbia - the deluxe version really makes it shine, and helps with the gameplay as well! 1. Terra Mystica - my favorite game of all time. played it hundreds of time, never getting bored of it. 😊

Still haven't played Lords of Waterdeep, TGZ, Pax Porfiriana, or Polis. Many others too, of course, but these are the ones I'd be interested in, though LoW is probably too light for my tastes.

And the one I played but really didn't understand the hype about, is Robinson Crusoe. Felt awfully random all game long.

Ginkgopolis is amazing but for such a simple game, it's unusually complex to expain. If you don't get it right away, you're in a real trouble.

Keyflower is a great one. It manages to be a six player euro that has a lot of interesting decisions and plays relatively fast. A unique one for sure.

Love the list. You have the picture for Keyflower as Ginkgopolis though.

I agree on the Tzolkin gear painting - so many stunning painted copies out there. Robinson Crusoe can absolutely be played with up to 4 players, with subtle differences to the rules, but yes I guess a large % of the people who play it, do so solo. I've got it, but haven't played it for a while. The rulebook didn't help that, as only on the 3rd game was I confident in the mechanisms of the gameplay loop. Memories of grappling with it don't help inspire me to get it off the shelf, but a friend asked about it recently, so I'll probably arrange a session to play it with him, either solo with two of us collaborating, or genuine two player. Inevitably I compare it to This War of Mine, a similarly punishing / punitive co-op game, that many (but not me) prefer solo. For me it's that game I'll reach for instead of RC, as it carries an emotional weight I find very special, to the point it will make me feel uncomfortable, but I appreciate that it does so.

very fond of the coal trilogy--especially the Capstone reprint Ruhr, with a similar game played on the Ohio River. Agree with Pax Porf as #1. Still willing to show up to HCHQ for Virgin Queen or Here I Stand. This is a fun concept; looking forward to your top ten lists from other years

I think you would enjoy netrunner, it is a delightful head2head game with alot of room for creative plays and bluffs. Considering your history with poker I would be surprised if it didnt gel with you. It can be a lot to take in though. Ground floor is a game I would love to play more but when we played it last some years ago I pulled a fast one on my friends with the meeting rooms. They ended up conceding and I was later given the game as my friend was unable to sell it off. 😅 Keyflower is a beautiful design. Doesnt hit the table very often in my group unfortunately.

A game I enjoy a lot you didn't mention is Yedo, albeit the deluxe edition of 2020, but hey basically the same thing.

I've actually played 6 of these games! That surprises me, but in a good way. Sadly not #1 or #2 though.

The rulebook of Pax Porforiana was just awful......I need to try the game again with a re-written rulebook.
