Great candy video from my childhood! I was (and still am) partial to licorice (red and black). Don't forget about the gums introduced in the 70s, like Bubble Yum, Bubblicious, and Hubba Bubba... I grew up on candy. In fact, Gardners Candies, in my hometown of Tyrone, PA, has been in business for 124 years. If you're ever in central PA, stop in and visit their old-timey candy store, candy museum, and ice cream shop, all within their Tyrone location. I take my kids there, when we're back visiting relatives. And, I always get the teaberry ice cream. Delicious!

whistle pops, pop rocks and candy cigarettes were insanely popular where i was a kid in the 70s. wax lips were stupid. also awesome were mr. bones.... those were candy bones that came in a plastic coffin and tart n tiny's seriously... not a single kid i knew liked wax lips

@@BabbleTop it was alright.... except for the wax lips part. in what city in my childhood was that even close to #1? seriously, it was all about the bubblegum cigarettes and whistle pops and pop rocks when i was a kid... all three were way more fun than wax lips. oh! and the bubblegum in packs of baseball and star wars cards. my neighbour worked for topps and did the deliveries for the topps cards to all of the local stores so we all got free packs of star wars cards and whacky packages when i was a kid

Along with wax lips there was also a far less popular item called wax mustache. It was black, tasted of licorice, and could be actually worn, by sticking two little prongs up your nose. Yes, you then chewed on it... I know what you're thinking... Me too.

In the 70s they made a modification to wax lips that turned them into a bubble gum when you chewed on them after a while! Still the same minty, waxy taste, though!

Wax lips aren't candy, and aren't eaten. Also they were introduced way before the 70s. My father worked in a wax lip factory in the early 60s. They are chewed like gum. Being wax they don't stick to your teeth like gum. You wear the lips by biting on the ridge on the back of them, but that softens pretty soon and you're chewing on that part. As you chew it it releases sugar and flavor, and just the same as gum it loses flavor as you chew.
