Single player games will always have a special place in our heart, and in our PS5. These are the top 10 best single player games on PS5.
As much as we love playing with friends, nothing quite beats losing yourself in an immersive single player story, whether it's discovering a robot dystopia in Stray or exploring, er, a different robot dystopia in Horizon Forbidden West. Don't worry, this list of PS5 single player games also contains zombie dystopias too. Because you can't do a 1p game feature without The Last Of Us Part 1.
What makes the best single player games? We'd argue a mix of narrative surprise, emotional depth and mechanical sublimity. PlayStation 5 experiences like Final Fantasy 16, that mash up continental-scale politics with localised moment to moment beatdowns that put Clive in the heat of the fight. Or Uncharted - a perennial PlayStation single player favourite - and the way it never loses sight of heart in the heat of battle.

Kinda. I love the franchise since Going Commando on ps2. While Rift Apart is decent, it's not as good as most ps2 and ps3 Ratchet & Clank. It's actually one of the weakest (still good though).

I know it's kind of a niche genre/game, but Returnal is probably one of my favorite PS5 games to date. Considering it came from an indie dev (at the time) that typically made 2D side scrollers and isometric TSS games, it's easily one of the most polished experiences on PS5, and I'm excited knowing that Housemarque is making a new IP apparently. Returnal provides dozens of hours of single player fun, a solid co-op experience, and a free DLC that adds more to the storyline as well. The true/secret ending is wildly ambiguous, and people who really sink their teeth into this game will get absolutely engrossed so long as they don't mind the initial difficulty spike. Don't pass on Returnal!

There are quite a lot of omissions here imo. From the top of my mind, Spider-Man Remastered/Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal, FFVII Remake, Demon's Souls, Witcher 3, Guardians of the Galaxy and the most underrated of them all, Midnight Suns, all deserve a spot. There is so much SP goodness out there!

Not gonna lie, but as much as I love a few online games, most of my time is spent playing single player games. When I think about PS5 single player games though, if I was to do a top 10 list I would not include "upgraded" PS4 games like Uncharted collection (as much as that is my favourite game series) or stuff like Ghosts of Tsushima, Witcher 3 etc, I would only include either games that are exclusive to this generation or games that released after the PS5 was released on both PS4 and PS5. I loved AC Valhalla, Resi 8, Miles Morales, FC 6, Ghostwire, Bops Cold War, MW II, Returnal & Like a dragon, on top of the obvious ones that you mentioned. Some people might not say some of these titles as maybe the story isnt as in depth as say Horizon or GoW, but all I care about is did I enjoy playing the single player campaign and did I enjoy the story.

Some fun games on this list. Not including games listed already, my list would include: Miles Morales FF7RI Guardians of the Galaxy DBZ: Kakarot GoT Directors Cut Honorable Mention to Crisis Core & Forspoken. Forspoken is a fun game with interesting lore. The writing has its low points but not as bad as others made it seem. I am also assuming my list will change by year end and again next year.

Arguably one of the most underrated stories belongs to the Darksiders franchise. Granted the games are easily tier 2 in terms of gameplay in emulating and combining gimmicks from other top tier games, but I think the story alone behind how they come to be and how the worlds have come to be and the conspiracy behind it all. Come on its good when you get into it. We need a proper Darksiders 4!

Good question I don't know. You'd have to see if a company/high staff member on twitter or forums or elsewhere can mention if possible. Pretty sure it's up to the developers to have a save conversion tool. No Man's Sky has this for PS4 to PS5 saves which is nice (even VR saves) but I can't think of other games that do this. I wondered the same with Square Enix demos if having the PS4 demo then PS5 version of it converts but I assume not and all progress would be done again I think. I don't know for sure. I think the file formats and data/code is different so a conversion tool is needed. Which is likely the case for anything file format related even MP4 (video besides extracting the audio contents) to MP3 (if ok with all audio then the specific audio wanted which for a music video if it's just the audio not say a music video with other bits in it is fine but voices, background and more doesn't make much sense in other videos for example) depending on what you plan to use files for among other situations. But depends what it's converting I have no idea but can speculate. It's a question I really don't have a proper answer for but always wondered about too so giving my thoughts on what I think is the case and doubt PS Access can answer.

Yes you can, there are many ways to do it and you’r bound to find your one. If you have a disck or digitally version, they can be transferred! Remember the save your ps4 games to the cloud for easiest data transfer!

New one is more of an action game than an rpg, but I loved it. You can get the first 10 reasonablely priced if you want turn based combat, and each has different enough mechanics that they don't really get dull. If you like mmos, 14 has a great free trial, but anything beyond the first expansion will require full purchase and paying a monthly subscription, also the sign up is a bit of a pain to go through. 16 or the remake of 7 would probably be where I would recommend someone not used to the series to start, and 4 would be where I recommend someone more interested in the turned based games to start due to how streamlined it is.

I want to echo what others said: many FF games are on PS+ and starting with FF7R Intergrade (PS5 version) or FF16 are good places to start. I would also add that FF7R and FF16 have free demos you can play. Though if you have PS+ Extra or Premium, you can play FF7R Intergrade for no additional cost.

i dont want to dismiss god of war and horizon forbidden west and resident evil 4, they are the best games playable on ps5, but they are also on ps4. they're arent true ps5 exclusives, and they run amazingly on ps4 so they're not really reasons to buy a ps5 if your a ps4 owner.

I would respectfully disagree. Especially for HFW, the load times alone are worth it. I believe it has the 2nd fastest load times I have seen in a PS5 game (Forspoken is the fastest and that was REALLY close to instantaneous). It is also an unbelievably gorgeous game on the PS5. Then there is the Burning Shores DLC which is only available on the PS5. I also didn't mention the activity cards that allow you to load the game directly from the home screen and set quest/mission as an active one. I believe the experiences are different enough to justify playing them on a PS5.

Ratchet Rift Apart scripted moments didn't do it for me hardware wise but yes it is exclusive and fits the list. But they have to put other big games on there and I guess many people think of them as PS5/to get the PS5 version. I didn't expect Need For Speed or Gotham Knights on this list, both third party current gen as they don't care for those games for one so not surprised even if they do fit the list besides being on Xbox Series as well. Surprised on Returnal which like Ratchet Rift Apart is exclusive to PS5. But yet FF16 is because exclusive but they like the game/series so the list doesn't match up really on exclusive just what they care about and played on PS5 which is a longer title and doesn't convey things as much/they don't care they make the list and want to sell people on PS5s which makes sense. Then again I focus on PS3/360/PS4/Xbox games from 2015 (if I had copies for old gen which I do) as still both then the newer but many people think it's said gen which makes sense it was that gen or the versions they played/they seek. I play mostly PS4 still but people are using their PS5 or seek the PS5 version (I'm happy on PS4 and my type of games regardless of how old the hardware, if it plays, it plays well enough even if graphics are different and seeing later years is kind of cool to me I don't know why).

Sure there’s like 5 games that stand out (Surprised GT didn’t make the list over ps3 and ps4 uncharted), but 5 games isn’t enough to make me shell out $500 for a system.. plus another 300 for games once they come down in price.

xbox is the same, this generation of consoles is seriously lacking exclusives.

@@UKGeezer which is a main reason why I'm skipping it entirely. In my mid 30s, I just don't have as much time and honestly I'm not as excited about games as I once was. Heck I still haven't played God of War Ragnarok yet, despite owning it for over a year. Cuz I still have to beat the first GOW for PS4 lol. I'm so behind. But on the plus side.. it just means I can buy most games for 60% off whenever I get around to them.
