If you want to discreetly shuffle just a few inches to the left of Dune, but not stray so far away that it's no long within eyesight then could I recommend you try 'Le Chypre du Nil' by Ciro? See, I too loved the first version of Dune (and the Dune alcohol-free version from the 1990s) and I enjoy things that smell similar but also quite different in character. I hope you will be able to find a bottle of the Ciro fragrance and give it a whirl this summer. Bye Gladys! :)

I wish Christian Dior would bring back the alcohol free 'summer spritz' version of Dune that was around in a frosted glass bottle in the 1990s. Unbelievably moreish and completely impossible to describe the smell of, it was like NOTHING else. I'd spray it on all over my legs even over stockings at work on hot summer days and would have swum laps in a pool filled with it every morning if I could have! I wish perfumers would be honest about why so many niche fragrances these days are lacking in projection and tenacity. The skin scent topic outrages me so much I really ought to post a video on it to get it out of my system, ahhaa :D 'Skin scent' is a cop-out explanation of why a formulation doesn't last or cannot be smelled by other people (or even the wearer after 30 minutes). Could such a failure really be deliberate and arranged entirely by design?! Why are the majority of the niche fragrances in the higher price bracket all such poor performers? I'm insulted to be fed this 'skin scent' explanation. Skin-scent wasn't a thing in the 1980s or the 1990s: everything PERFORMED. I love the classic 'cocoon' type of fragrances too, and these still had some life, a sense of expansion and presence once upon a time. Can it all be blamed on IFRA? If it's to do with raw materials, finances or some changes technically in the industry then I wish they'd all be honest about it. One thing that the 1990s had was silage, that's for sure. People often refer back as far as the 1980s when talking about 'big' fragrances but the 1990s fragrances had real 'lift off', you could smell them for hours and they'd hover around a person all day/night in a lovely cloud of scent. Now? I'm told it's a skin scent and it's implied that if I don't 'get it' then it's my sensibilities that are lacking in sophistication and I'm some mall-rat yokel who ought to stick to drug store fragrances because I know nothing about fragrance construction and contemporary innovations and trends...y'know? Such bollocks which I will not fall for. Tsk, for shame. PS= You looked lovely in this video, so chic. Your taste is completely different to mine, I enjoyed hearing you talk.

I'm so pleased to have found your channel. Our preferences are almost entirely aligned in that they are eclectic and refined. Intuition was my signature in my early twenties too. What do you think about the reformulated formula in the rectangular bottle? In my opinion it is not very different from the original, and is a very good fragrance, but lacks something deep yet luminous found in the formula from 2000. Is the new one discontinued too? There are rumours about it but it is still available at Estee’s.

I'm really fortunate to have 2 bottles of Alien Essence Absolue. I already had a 1 oz before the discontinue was announced, but i immediately bought a 2oz back up as soon as i found out they werent making it anymore. Its too good to not have. Also, I've wanted to get Velevet Amber Sun for a long time now! It sounds so good! And I'm obsessed with amber. However the only prices I've seen online are over $250. I live in the US so maybe thats why? Anyway id love to try it or own it. I highly doubt I'd dislike it as i love all predominantly Amber perfumes. The discontinued Amber Absolute is still my favorite. But i also love Grand Soir, Amber Precieux, Ambre Nuit, Amber 114 , Ambre Redoutable (Mugler), Ambre Imperial, Ambre D'Alexandrie, Amber from Reminiscence and Ambre Sultan . I liked Amber Musk from Aerin ok, and was unfortunately mostly nose blind to L'ambre from Hermes. I'd also love to try Amber Russe and Amber Fetiche. But still....Amber Velvet Sun had been at the top of my list. 😊
